I went to the GP today as I had discovered my cervix felt lumpy. I have had intermittent spotting, post coital spotting, periods a week later or early, lower abdominal pain, bloating, gas and loose stools for 6 months or more. I have suffered with tummy problems for years so was less concerned about this, always put it down to IBS but is more recent that it has worsened and pain has moved to lower abdominal right hand side, on occasion I have thought I might have appendicitis.
I had a negative smear and HPV 2 years and 10 months ago.
The GP was a trainee. On consultation she suggested running blood tests and stool sample. She carried out an internal exam and struggled to see my cervix at first. I have always been told my cervix sits unusually low but she eventually found it. She was visibly concerned with what she saw. She described it as 5 or 6 lumps that looked pus filled. She was surprised that they weren't painful when touched but I could feel no pain. She said my cervix appeared a little inflamed and bulky. She took a smear test swab and an STI swab, I didn't even feel her do it!
She said there were no other female doctors working, otherwise she would have got them in for a second opinion and there was no point getting a male doctor in as they rarely see cervixes. She said we need to get you referred to a Gynae in an urgent referral. I asked if this would be the 2 week pathway and she confirmed it would be. She didn't do a good job of hiding her concern. But I don't know if she was just nervous because of her lack of experience?
if this had been an experienced GP making the referral I would be very concerned but from the reasearch I have done, this sounds like nabothian cysts. I had a breast cancer scare a few years ago and it turned out I had 10 cysts in my breasts. When I was pregnant with my daughter (20 years ago) scans revealed a harmless cyst on one of my ovaries. Maybe I am a cysty person?! She didn't say any more about running the initial blood tests and stool sample discussed at the beginning.
Anyone more experienced have a view on it?
Obviously a gynae will be the right person to see and can say for sure but I'm very confused as to whether I should be concerned or not - she never even mentioned cysts, maybe she's never seen them before?!
