Biopsy results further testing

Hi

Just hoping for reassurance, I had a Haemotologist appointment on the 2nd February, thinking all would be fine with my bone marrow results.
They came back with abnormalities , not certain of a diagnosis as yet or wouldn't commit till further testing which will take a couple of months .

im guessing because they want to see if the abnormal cells grow into cancer ?
Also to get a second opinion of the BM sample .

My consultant was absolutely lovely, but I'm fearing it's going towards that way as we were discussing a blood cancer ET . Went onto explain that if it turns out to be they wouldn't treat till I'm 60 ( I'm 53) but keep a close on eye on things . Apparently it's a slow growing cancer hence the delay and you can live a normal life span .

My red blood platelets have been high for a decade and only picked up due to a routine blood test for a different test.

Can anyone share there experiences please one minute I'm ok and the next I'm filled with anxiety and doubt . The word abnormalities doesn't sit right with me at the moment.

Many thanks

  • Hi Lou69,

I can understand this causing some concern and I'm sure you must have quite a few questions and uncertainties. It sounds like you have a follow-up in place with the specialist so hopefully you'll soon get an opportunity to ask any more questions you have - they will be best placed to advise on your situation.

In the meantime if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you are welcome to give them a call. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Otherwise if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Ben ,

Thank you for your kind reply , I'll update the forum once I have more news . I'll be sure to call the helpline. I've also started to note some questions down for my next appointment as I do have a few . I'm hoping it won't be to long before I have a diagnosis.

    kind regards Lou69

  • Hi .I've just been diagnosed as having ET . My appointment with the MPN clinic is next week.  I found I kept looking on the internet and decided  not to do that anymore as it causes me too much anxiety.,

Dont  forget to let the  forum know how you get on.

  • Hi Gemma3

I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis of ET hoping your appointment goes well at the MPN clinic next week.
    Hope your doing ok .

Did you have any symptoms as I know sometimes it's picked up without realising yourself. I'm trying not to Google to much as the consultant explained ET very well although not diagnosed until my results come back alongside a second opinion.

I will update once I know more.
Thank you for your reply the forum has been great for me.
