Thank you. It's not over yet though, I'm going back for more scans and possible biopsies in 12 weeks.

I can understand how you don't feel fully convinced about this fantastic news. However, try to take some solace in that your consultant has not dismissed you from the clinic. It should be reassuring to know that your care team are going to monitor you, to check that there are no changes.

I am not a doctor, but know that some people need additional tests to the triple assessment, that you've already had done. I understand that an MRI uses magnetic and radio waves to produce a series of images of the inside of the breast (Breast Cancer Care).

It is definitely good news that it's not something worse or more aggressive. I've never had a scan on my breasts since I'm 35 so I didn't know what they would find.

But it has left me with a lingering concern but I think I'm just processing it all. I also show zero symptoms of duct ectasia and I take the max amount of ibuprofen every day for chronic migraines so it's not like I'm not taking anything to take the inflammation down if there was any so the doctor said he couldnt even recommend any anti-inflammatories plus its not even painful. Just feels like theres something pulling my nipple down and shouldn't be there.

I will be keeping a note of symptoms and what i see so I can go back in 3 months (or sooner if something new comes up). Since you're really experienced with all this, can DCIS can sometimes be missed since it's so early and small? Thanks again for your encouragement xx

As you know, I am not a doctor, so I may well be wrong here. As far as I understand, DCIS in the early stages, is considered to be pre-cancerous. Doctors don't fully understand what causes it, although thery suspect that it may have to do with genetics and lifestyle. It doesn't always progress any further, but this is why they will monitor you to ensure that it doesn't decide to spread. It can be difficult to differentiate between very small early stage cancers and some benign lumps.

The chances of missing these have greatly reduced in the last 30 years, as screening techniques have improved dramatically. It is only since the advent of routine mammogram screening that DCIS is regularly picked up. Many consultants now advise regular surveillance rather than giving any treatment, unless this progresses to a greater risk.

Here's hoping that you don't have to return, before you're due back, but please keep us in the loop.

That sounds like great news. I was just wondering whether you heard back from the consultant as he seemed confused. I have similar symptoms has you I feel my right breast is hard, and is a bit bigger than my left?  I don't have any pain. It was red and painful initially but that cleared. Not I just have hardness and right breast bigger than the left.

I got a 12 week appointment straight away after the consultation and a letter to say they hope the duct ectasia clears up by the time i go back... the only explanation for the duct ectasia looking at my history, no kids, no preganancies, no smoking, is.. nothing. 

In fact now it's looking worse, my boob looks more larger and my areola is hugely different to my left. Unfortunately during the breast clinic it was verrrry cold and therefore my areolas both shrunk around the nipple but I have been taking photos and videos of every day occurances to show and prove what I was saying. Always best to get it checked and the doctor was very goood in the sense he said we would get to the bottom of it.
