Biopsies after Flexi Sig

I have had rectal bleeding, nausea and irregular stools for over a year now and have recently started to lose weight. My doctor suspects ulcerative colitis and sent me for a flexible sigmoidoscopy. They found 3 haemorrhoids and no polyps (thank God) and said the colon looks normal, but they still took 6 biopsies. Does this mean I'm in the clear for colorectal cancer or is it still possible to have this without polyps? I also posted this on Ask The Nurses but wanted to know if anyone else has been in a similar situation and either been diagnosed with cancer or ulcerative colitis. Thank you for any replies :)

  • Hello, I am in a similar situation. I had a colonoscopy last Friday and I was told it was a normal scope but they took ten biopsies and will see me once the results have come back. I have heard it's positive if patients are told it's a normal scan but i've also heard until biopsies are back, consultants can't diagnose or rule anything out.

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I hope everything comes back clear for you :)

  • Hi like iO I had colonoscopy as i was pouring blood and they wanted to check for cancer . Also took biopsies, told me everything looks clear and biopsies were just a second check ,other cancer is other places.

I was already having cancer treatment chemotherapy. And the camera showed a lovely ring of hemoids like the petals of a flower hence bleeding (which I don't have before treatment started).

That was 2016. Hemoids cleared up after chemo. But just started moving chemo, im a glutton for punishment.
