Lump on roof of mouth

Hello,

I noticed a lump on the roof of my mouth between my molars around 5-6 months ago. Thought nothing of it. It doesn't hurt and it's normal skin tone in colour it's also smooth and hard. I went to see my dentist in July didn't mention it because I thought he would of seen it... I saw max fax in August as I found a lump on my jaw (swollen lymph node after 3 ultra sound scans) he thought it was reactive because of my impacted wisdom teeth... I mentioned lump on the roof of my mouth which you can't see but can feel to which he said nothing to worry about and its normal.

About 3 week ago I started to get an itchy throat and redness ect I got put on a two week course of flucanazole which appeared to have helped but after the course finnished last week my symptoms came back. I've had another scan on my jaw which has shown no changes and nothing else is going on in my neck.

But now I've been reading up on things so my anxiety is through the roof. I returned back to my dentist today to get the lump on the roof of my mouth looked at... It hasn't changed in size or anything there appears to be no inflamation no bleeding and no soreness. He's referring me to max fax again on a 2 week pathway but said this is the quickest way to get you seen otherwise you'll be waiting months and my head has just gone into tumoil iv been reading and reading and reading! And iv convinced myself it is some sort of carcinoma and questioning myself why didn't my push for it to be looked at more in August!

I'm 29 a non smoker and rarely drink alcohol.

  • The antibiotics helped the lump, or am I misreading that? Is the lump on the soft or hard part of the palate?

If on the hard palate, there's something called a torus palatinus. A bony type growth. It's harmless.

  • It's not directly behind my front teeth it is on the hard pallet at the back between my molars.

The anti biotics didn't help the lump on my jaw, but after a scan it was said to be a swollen lymph node that was reactive and iv had two more ultrasounds since then too which have said the same. All my blood work is normal also.

Its just this lump on the roof of my mouth. I mentioned it at the appointment with max fax in August and they said oh its normal and casted it off didn't even mention it in the letter to the gp. So iv been back this week to the gp because i think the thrush has come back along with the itchy neck and neck pain. The gp said it looked like benign abnormality same as what the consultant said but now iv been to the dentist and to be honest he has scared me.

  • An Oral and maxillofacial specialist is the person who specialises in this type of stuff, not a dentist. Think of a dentist being what gp's are. A jack of all trades, a master of none. I know it's a very crude description, but just like it would be a cardiologist that would ultimately treat you should a heart issue arise, and not a gp, an Oral and maxillofacial specialist/surgeon would be the person who is best placed to diagnose lumps and bumps affecting your jaw/palate. It's what they do. If one has told you it's nothing, it's probably nothing. A dentist just refers people on should something be outside of their expertise.

  • I'm not disputing that but I went to the max fax consultant about a lymph node on my jaw no other symptoms and I mentioned the lump on the roof of my mouth. He brushed it with his finger and shrugged it off as normal and that was that.

Now I have all these other symptoms and I'm beside myself about it.
