Breast Lump Biopsy wait

Hello,

Im 38 and I had a biopsy on Wednesday (31st). At first the consultant examined me and said he thought the lump was a fibroadenoma. Once the scan started they asked if they could do a mammogram which worried me straight away. Once the mammogram had been completed I was told that they weren't happy with the presentation of the lump (irregular with calcification) so would need a biopsy.

I was told I would have a face to face appointment more or less 2 weeks to the day after. On Friday (2nd) I received a letter online inviting me to an appointment on 26th September!! Surely the biopsy results aren't back yet and that would be over 3 weeks since? Has anyone else had this?

Trying to stay positive and keep busy but it's so hard

Thanks

  • Hello [@Hollibob]‍ , I had a surgical biopsy on the same day as you and I had a letter inviting me to come in about my results on the 21st, I think they just send out a letter automatically after taking the biopsy and fit patients in one after another, there's no way the letter could have got here this quickly otherwise. I genuinely don't think the letter has any indication of what the results are as I doubt they've even looked at them yet.

Sorry it's still a waiting game, it's horrid isn't it, I just want answers! I've got a house move to keep me distracted in the meantime and an MRI to worry about, hopefully you can find ways to keep busy too and in the meantime am happy to chat and wait with you until we know more!

  • Thank you for your reply.

I was thinking that the appointments must just get automatically booked in. They assured me they would call me to go in in 2 weeks so hopefully we get earlier dates.

Yes the waiting is horrible!  The consultant said even if results are benign its not the kind of lump you would leave so I know it's got to come out. Just the thought that it's there is driving me insane I just want it out.

Sorry to hear you have the additional worry of an MRI and stress of moving although I understand that this is probably a good distraction at the moment.

  • Aww that must've been so hard. They didn't get too much away on ultrasound the lady said as I'm 36 good sign and the lump is quite round.

My husband's the same he's been so supportive sat in waiting room on biopsy and I kept saying why don't you get a cup of tea and he said no I'd rather wait   how are you coping with operation coming up can't lie in quite nervous of needles so keep worrying of being in hospitals etc xxx

  • That sounds positive! I'm 38 (39 in a few weeks) felt odd them saying I was young but I guess in terms of this we are very young.

Surgery doesn't phase me really, I had an op in April this year on my other breast to remove the duct. I've also had gall bladder removed and 2 c-sections so it's just another scar! Haha probably shouldn't be so flippant but it's got to come out so I'm ready for it.

Keep yourself in the here and now and focus on getting your result first. Cross any bridges in terms of hospitals when you need to. Do you have things that pass the time? Jig saw puzzles, box sets, crafts etc? It won't take your mind off it fully but if it makes time go quicker that helps.

Let me know how it goes when you call on Friday or if you hear anything before.

Always here to chat. We have got this!!! X

  • You too thank you yes trying keep busy with coursework helping and I'm a carer.

My last operatin was 14 years ago c section with my son and was emergency c section so think maybe hospitals make me a bit nervous even get a bit scared of being put to sleep lol.

Always here keep me updated xx

  • Hi holibob

glad to here you are doing ok .

the lumpectomy is ok , honestly didn't feel like I had had a operation was out next day for coffee with my friend it's a really easy operation no pain only thing was washing my hair drive me mad cause I had to do it over bath and shower seperate for 2 weeks as you can't get wound wet that was only thing that annoyed me recovery is so quick , but can't drive for 2 weeks also that's the downsides .

you will be fine honestly just drink plenty of water and rest if you need to let everyone spoil you xx

  • Hi @K86

    [@K86]‍

How are you doing? Did you get hold of clinic? Hoping you've got appointment date.

  • Hi

    [@laraj]‍

Thanks for your reply, I had duct removal back in April and that was totally pain free but figured the position and size of the lump this time may be a little more uncomfortable.  So it's good to hear that recovery is going to be good. Can I ask if you had lymph nodes removed? Everything I've read seems to suggest that this is the more painful being under arm.

    X

  • Hey thanks for your message still nothing tried a number for hospital couldn't get through and trued my doctor they only said should get a letter from the hospital think Monday gonna try hospital again.

    How are you doing? Xxx

  • How frustrating for you! Yes keep on at them x

I'm ok just want Monday to be here (not something I thought I'd ever wish for! Haha). Hopefully I will get a surgery date so I can start getting organised and planning.
