Large lump in breast

Hi All,

A week ago last Friday I did a boob check as I do pretty regularly and was shocked to discover a golf ball sized lump deep in my boob.  I'm so confused and annoyed with myself how I could have missed this in the past.  My mind is playing tricks on whether I did miss this or if it suddenly appeared.  I'm in good health, dare I say even dodged blooming covid so far and aged 42.

I got a doctors appointment the same day and then she said 'I can't reassured you what the lump is' then arranged for a mammogram etc tomorrow.  Naturally I'm nervous and I guess what will be will be.  I can't take my husband with me to the appointment as it's the final week of holidays with my son so I will be going alone which I'm ok with.

Just wanted to double check if I will likely get an indication tomorrow on what the lump could be or if I will need to wait for any biopsy results etc?

I'm thinking based on the size of the lump the outcome is inevitable but trying to prepare myself for best and worse case scenarios.

  • Hello

my first appointment was mammogram biopsy and ultrasound, sane day I was told it was suspicious.

tey not to worry it may not be anything my friend had a lump hers was all ok , I wish you well xx I'm here if you need a chat x

  • So from 1st appointment to diagnosis was 7 days in total for me , so if you get mammogram biopsy and ultrasound same day it should be around 7 days for biopsy results hopefully you will be ok try not to worry xx

  • Hi there, I'm in the same boat as you and have my breast clinic appointment on Wednesday. I've been following other threads and it does seem to be that on the whole, all the tests are done on the same day and an indication is given as to whether or not it's anything serious.  I appreciate that your partner may not be able to leave your child but do you have a close friend who could go with you?  My best friend is coming with me as my parents will be looking after my boys (I'm a single parent), just on the off chance it's news I don't want to hear.

At the very least you'll have news soon, that's what I'm holding on to. Waiting has been awful and even if I'm given bad news I think it would probably feel better and more in control than I feel right now.

Happy to chat or DM if you want to, please do let me know how you get on tomorrow, I will be thinking of you.

  • Good luck ladies I wish you the best xxx

  • Hi, when I went for mammogram I was called back the following week and spoke to doctor. Was told that they thought it was cancer. They then did a biopsy and went back up a week later had it all confirmed. I felt as though it was all pretty quick. Good luck to you and hope it all goes well for you:happy::happy::happy:

  • Update

Thank you everyone for your comments.

So I've been told it's 50/50.  Well actually I was told by both doctors they were on the fence as to whether the lump is cancerous so they want to wait on the biopsy results.

Not ideal but now the dreaded 2ww.  Positive news is the nodes are clear and nothing worrying on the other breast.

So it's a wait and see game here.

  • Hi, did you get your results ?

I've just had a lump checked, and waiting for a breast clinic app, it's quite big on the left hand side, on the outward side wall xx

  • Thanks for checking in.

Still waiting on a follow up appointment.  They told me they had none available but would call me short notice when they had reviewed my results.  2 weeks is next Tuesday.  So hopefully any day.  I was hoping the initial appointment would have guided me more one way or another but the 50:50 comment makes it a challenge on how to prepare myself.

  • Did they give you any indication or is it a wait and see for you too? Or are you waiting on a the first hospital appointment?  I have everything crossed for you.

  • Not really, she said it's moving which is a good sign, this is the 3rd time I've been in, 2 were on the right bteast near the middle.

This one is on the left breast, a lot bigger than the others, q few inches below my arm pit,I said I wasn't sure if it was my lymph node, but she never answered me. Fingers crossed I get an appointment soon, just putting it to the back of my mind for now xx

Fingers crossed they call you in soon xx
