Need to contact GP

I have lost 2 stone in weight these past months and just generally feeling so tired, everything is an affort.  Loss of appetite and when I do eat I get a pain in my right side like appendix pain but i have had that removed as a child so I know it's not that.

The past two weeks I have been the feeling of always needing the toilet but only have air and watery poos. Not able to sleep tonight as feeling sick and the need to go to the toilet but nothing happens pain on my right side of my stomach.

Will call GP as soon as they open for an appointment - does anyone else have these symptoms as convinced myself it's cancer.

  • Hello Jann65,

Sorry that you are having these symptoms, it must be such a difficult time for you.

You did the right thing going to your GP. Please remember that most people under the 2 week pathway turn out not to have cancer. But it is good that you will be finding out the cause of your symptoms so that you can get treated.

Not telling your family might be difficult. I told my family when my symptoms started and when I was referred on 2 week pathway. I couldn't bottle my feelings inside and they supported me every step along the way.

They were actually happy that I was on the 2 week pathway as they didn't want to me to wait any longer to find out what's causing my symptoms. Of course they were worried that it could be cancer since we have a family history (2 children and 1 adult) but they were hoping that if it is this, it's at an early stage.

It might also help to take one family member with you to appointments. I feel like if I went by myself, I would have felt a lot more anxious on the way to the appointments and in the waiting area. They couldn't come with me to the actual procedure but the doctors and nurses were very reassuring.

But it is your choice if you want to tell your family or not. If you decide not to, I think you should continue to write on here so you don't feel lonely and it is good to talk about your feelings and worries.

I am here if you would like someone to listen. I had similar symptoms (but rectal bleeding was my main symptom) and it turns out that they couldn't see any abnormalities other than haemorrhoids. I am still waiting on biopsy results so I hope they will be normal.

I hope everything turns out okay xx

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and totally agree the two week rule does not mean it is cancer and hoping that it is not. I just don't want to upset my family with the worry but have taken on board what you have said in having their support. That's why I posted on here so I feel like I'm discussing it with someone. At the moment I go very feeling angry and upset to convincing myself that it's all in my head and I'm wasting everyones time.

Your kind time and support does mean so much xx
