Lumps. Worried it may be cancer.

Sorry for double post. I've deleted my other post as I didn't realise there was a pre diagnosis section and can't figure out how to delete it.

Just over a month ago I found a lump on the back of my neck inicidentally whilst fiddling with my hair. I saw my GP and he advised the neck is a prime place for enlarged lymph nodes as there's loads there.
No infection symptoms at all. Bloods arranged and the receptionist has advised me the results are normal. I've since found another lump on the roof of my mouth, I'm bruising like crazy on my legs and my neck is now sitting funny (curving strange). Doctor has said they don't investigate lumps further till it's been 6 weeks but this is crazy to me because in England (I'm in Wales), there's a 2WW pathway?
I have been sweatier than usual but put this down to warm weather and have had weight loss but factored this into coming off meds that made me gain lots of weight. Also extremely tired - but got a toddler.
All things considered and my clear bloods (FBC - they took two purple tubes and one yellow) is it still possible that I have cancer? How should I broach things with my GP at my next appointment? I submitted an econsult Thursday last week requesting referral for this to be investigated but they've instead booked me a telephone appointment on Tuesday.

  • I can't give much advice as I am in England, but even over here the 2WW isn't straightforward, I had to wait two and a half weeks to have a lump ultrasound from initial GP visit (who only saw me after initial phone appointment), the ultrasound confirmed a tumour with strong blood supply, and now I'm just waiting again for GP to confirm it looks malignant (as implicated by sonographer) and wait for more tests, then wait for more results. So although it's called a 2WW, the reality of that is probably very similar to the wait times where you are.

Everybody here seems to agree that the waiting is the worst bit. Heck, thats why I'm awake at 3.30, the thoughts are big and scary and it seems like there's very little to be done. Try to keep yourself busy if you can, and don't spend too much time on Dr Google, you'll scare yourself silly. I also put a lot of my symptoms down to having small children, being tired, dizzy because I don't drink enough, bruise easily because I work with small children and consistently bump into little tables and chairs... Don't blame yourself, just focus on the steps you are able to take now. Big hugs and I hope you get the answers you need really soon xx

  • Hi Laura, thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear about what you're going through but thank you for clearing up how the 2WW works. I guess I'm just frustrated they won't do any checks any sooner.
Thank you for the tips! We've just moved house so got plenty to stay occupied with. Hope you are doing ok considering and here if you need an ear at all. Really appreciate the reply. Hope you managed to get a semi decent rest last night. Sending big hugs to you too. Hope your GP doesn't keep you waiting too long for more info xx

  • Hi all,

I hope you are all OK. I am in a similar boat. My Bloods do show infection markers but not massively high, I have an enlarged gland in my neck, a lump on my arm and I found a lump in my breast, all in the right side, when examining me the doc also noticed another pea sized lump in my breast.

I have an appointment on Thursday at the breast clinic, an appointment on the following Tuesday at ENT for the throat and awaiting the appointment for my arm, which may take 4 weeks. Although she wasn't really concerned with my arm.

Although trying to put it out of mind i can't stop worrying internally. So naturally sleep is out the question. I've told my husband but have played it down massively and don't want to worry anyone else.

The wait is so hard isn't it!

  • Hi love! I'm waiting to discuss blood results with the doctor Tuesday. Hopefully there'll be some indicator of what's going on - I spoke to a friend yesterday and she told me not to take the receptionists word for it. So we'll see.
Really sorry to hear about what's going on with you. Do hope your appointments go well .

I don't know if they'll be any help but I use rescue remedy - can buy it in Tesco when I'm feeling anxious and they help me relax. Or you can buy phenagern from a pharmacy and they can help you sleep - of course you'll need to go through it with pharmacy though. And I'm sure your husband is worried too but perhaps wants to keep his cool so not to panic you further. Sending big hugs. Xx
    definitely such a painful wait!

  • Thanks I will have a look for them.

Good luck for Tuesday I hope all goes well. No I wouldn't take receptionists word but hope she is right with them being all clear.

Telephone appointments are so hard arent they. My bloods have been back showing infection markers for months but she just kept saying wait 3 months and re take and a couple of times she gave me antibiotics. It's only me mentioning family history of thyroid she asked me to go in to actually feel my neck where all this came from. I do feel with something like this they should see you face to face rather on the phone!

  • Hope they help lovely.
thank you! Will soon see I suppose!

ah that's really rubbish! I've been lucky that my GP are seeing me and have done throughout covid but sometimes they do things over the phone first. Do hope everything goes ok for you xx

  • Doctor said my bloods are reassuring and that when I've been seen prior the doctors weren't worried, but has agreed to re-examine me on Friday due to new lumps. Finding it all really frustrating .

    how are you doing xx

  • I'm OK thanks, first of 3 appointments in the morning, hopefully this one is cleared straight off and then can relax a little. X

  • I'm really glad the blood tests were reassuring, I've been thinking of you and hoping all went well. Hopefully the re exam will give you more answers!
