Vaccum Assisted Biopsy- after care / exercise & pain ?

Hi ,

I'm 39 female and had to have a vaccum assisted biopsy at the Breast Clinic last Wednesday. Very surprised to see that most guidelines say that the pain would go after 48hours when I have been very sore and unable to fully resume normal activity involving anything slightly heavy or streneous. I've taken paracetamol, iced it , worn a support bra etc The wound looks like it's healing normally with no sign of infection or bruising but the pain is quite deep within the breast tissue and shows no sign of receeding. Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and can share any advice ? Apart from the stress of waiting for the results ( there's a lot of cases of breast cancer in my family on my mother's side) it is really depressing not to be able to go back to my normal exercise routine because of it .  The Clinic only advised to carry on with pain killers .

  • Hi

yes I've had this done it was really bad the power went of in the middle of mine

    so it took forever

it gave me and infection and a hematoma they took about 20 biopsies

im not even sure why it was done

this was 6 years ago I had a mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time

I'm fine with all that it was ok

im now awaiting a report on a wide excision from my lower leg for squamous skin cancer not related to the breast cancer as far as I know

    feeling very worried and upset

hope it all goes well for you

    x x

  • Hello MagnesIN1

I'm sorry to hear that you're still struggling with pain since your biopsy last week and that it's impacting your ability to do the things that you normally would.

It's good to hear that things look like they're healing well with no sign of infection or visible bruising. It may be that you have some deeper bruising that causing the pain and that could take a bit longer to settle and improve.

It may be worth giving the breast care nurse a call to ask for some further advice if things still haven't improved. Alternatively, you can call our team of nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm, and chat things through with them.

I hope that you won't have to wait too long for your results. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
