Hi There, to me what you've said sounds good as they feel that only the nodes being removed will do the job although through a neck dissection.

Like you the only information I have on this is on this website or Macmillans.

In my case I'll have a PEG fitted on Tuesday and my treatment starts a week Wednesday.

My biopsy came through and revealed my left tonsil was the primary and has spread to my left lymph nodes. They've found cancer on my right tonsil and therefore I'll be getting radiotherapy on both sides of my neck.

 I had my mask fitted on Thursday and various other things in preparation for Wednesday.

Incidently, my daughter is a radiotherapist in the hospital where I'll be having treatment.

She was with me on Thursday.

 Although scary I sincerely hope that the option your OH has will be the last of it. 
It is a worrying time for all of us but the prognosis is good.

Hi Tom 

Just wanted to check in with you and say hi and see how you are doing? How has your treatment been? 

My partner had his operation on Friday, some more taken from the tonsil area plus his neck dissection.  He was in on Friday morning and when i went to see him Friday he was much brighter than when he had the tonsillectomy. He stayed in until Sunday night and is now recoverng at home.  His consultant confirmed all went well but again its now waiting for the teams to meet to discuss and then for us to have our follow up meeting to confirm what the next stage is. 

We go into these things without any expectation this way any good news is a bonus. 

Its such a difficult time for anyone going through any type of treatment/surgery and also so hard for families as well, there are good days and bad days but as we said the prognosis is good and brighter days should reach us all soon.

Hi, thanks for your update. It does sounds positive from what your consultant has said.

A simple sentence " it went well" that's good.

You are right, waiting for the follow up is going to be difficult.

Im now 2 weeks into treatment and feel ok for now except for a dryer mouth and taste buds all over the place. As a result my appetite has diminished and so have to force myself to eat.

But at this time I can live with that.

For me I'm not even thinking about the end of treatment as it's to far away and my follow up is on the 25th November. D day!

But I am optimistic.

Having cancer is a big thing for the patient and the family and when I go to hospital for treatment I'm with other cancer patients and that to me in itself helps me. I'm not the only one and I love it when they ring bell I'm made up for them.

Its a challenge for everyone, patient and family but as we've said the prognosis is good. That is all we should think of when we feel anxious or scared.
