Suspicious mole, and swollen lymph node?

Hi everyone,

I've just been to the Dr with a mole which has recently changed. The Dr decided it looked suspicious and has put in a referral for me to have it removed. It doesn't sound like there will be anything else involved in terms of tests etc., just the removal.

I've come home and read a little online (never a good idea, i know) I read something about lymph nodes and I've just remembered that I had a tender lump, which I thought was a swollen lymph node, last week. This appeared for about a day, and then disappeared again. I have just recently miscarried and have been a bit run down so I put it down to that and thought nothing else of it. The Dr also mentioned that changes in moles can occur sometimes due to hormones in pregnancy.

I'm now wondering whether I should be concerned about the swollen lymph node? Should I make another appointment with the Dr to tell him this even though it is now gone, and the mole is being removed?

Also, is it normal to just have it removed without testing first? I don't know what to be thinking about this. I obviously won't know if it's melanoma or not? Therefore won't know if there's a chance of it having spread or coming back in the future, or am I just overthinking?

Thank you in advance for any advice, I'm a bit clueless.

  • I'm very sorry for your loss and you must be going through so much physically and mentally at the moment. In response to your question about the lymph node it most probably is nothing to worry about as it went away. However I would mention it to your gp just to put your mind at ease. When they remove the mole I think they would send it to the lab to check for any malignant cells at that point and you will get a letter with results. You can ask about that at the time.
I hope it all goes well. I'm waiting on results from a CT scan on Monday. I've a few lumps in different places and my gp said my lymph nodes in my groin were thickened. The lump on my neck seems bigger each day but I can't complain with how quickly they reacted. I saw gp on a Thursday and I was seen by consultant on the next Tuesday. Within 3 weeks I have had an ultrasound and now a CT of everything apart from arms and legs! I'm trying so hard to keep my mind off it but it's not easy
