Ovarian cancer & prolapsed uturus

Hi everyone,

I am posting this to learn a little more as the doctors suspect my mum has this...

She is 57 years old, relatively healthy. We went to a and e as she was experiencing a heavy chest, shortness of breath, right side pain, back ache, nasea and feeling of being full up. The doctor did a blood test and said she has a minor infection and prescribed antibiotics. Fast forward two weeks, the pain in the chest hasn't occurred since but the other symptoms remained. I toom her to hospital today  the doctor said he can see something on her right ovary and referred her for the 14 day investigation for a transvaginal scan. We ended up paying for it privately this evening - this Dr said she can see her uturus is prolapsed likely due to pregnancy, and a 10cm cyst on her left ovary containing hard mass. She said there wasn't a blood supply in the cyst which meant it could be good news but said its 50/50 it could be cancerous. She suggested it's removed ASAP and has types up a report that we will send to her gp. She said the crucial one is to remove the cyst and then look into the prolapsed uturus of course dependant on further investigations.

I was wondering whether anyone has experienced this and what the outcome has been?

  • I am over 65 and bilateral ovarian cysts were removed last November, they were complex cysts so potentially cancerous they were found during a colonoscopy for left sided pain. After MRI, ultrasounds ect bloods l had surgery 8 weeks later. The left overy was difficult to locate and remove due to extensive adhesions due to previous surgery everything was stuck together, the oncology surgeon was used to difficult surgery and spent over 4 hours removing it all.
    Fortunately the biopsies were benign.
Take care l hope you have a similar outcome

  • Thank you Susie. All the best,

  • My mum had her MRI and a contrast CT scan today for her chest, stomach and pelvis. They've said her gynacologist will receive the results in a few days or up to one week. Why would they scan other areas - I feel like they might know something but aren't telling us. No ca125 results yet - the blood test was done on Thursday last week so there is probably a delay due to the weekend.

    Thanks

  • I am similar to your mum - age and symptoms. An ultrasound for me found polyps, fibroids and a large mass, possibly no blood supply. to it. I've had blood tests for cancer markers, MRI and CT scans of chest/pelvis and pancreas. I was told surgery would mostly likely be reccommended but I've not yet had results from anything. I was told at my initial ultrasound/hysteroscopy that scans were not just to further assess the mass but would also include chest as they would be looking at general health assessment in readiness for surgery. I would imagine that is also the reason for your mum's 'other area scans' but I am very much a beginner at all of this

  • Thanks for your message. I will post updates on what happens with her diagnosis. The odd thing is she has pain in her right side yet the cyst is on the left! The Dr said she didn't know why and the pain is likely due to something else which adds more confusion. Do you mind me asking if you've had your results back yet? The NHS have been pretty quick with my mum she was officially referred on Sunday 24th July and has had one ultrasound/TV, ca125, MRI, CT scan and FIT blood test is scheduled for tomorrow. No results for anything other than the ultrasounds yet though.

  • Hi I'm 67 ....post menopausal

A 5 cm cyst was found accidentally on my left ovary

during a MRI of my lower back as I'm having soo

    much pain .

like your mum the pain is on my right side

it's sharp I can hardly walk a times with it

yet the cyst is on my left ......

I had a CA125 on Friday .. got the result today

    it was normal ...

I've not yet seen a gynaecologist... going privately on

Monday to see him for transvaginal scan..

I hope your mum gets her blood results soon and the results are good abd

I hope the surgery all goes well . I think

they are doing all the scans for pre surgery assessment

    Rosie xx

  • Hi Rosie,

Thanks for your comment. It's moving to see how many people respond and just wanted to say thanks for taking the time, it's greatly appreciated.

Did you have any other symptoms aside from back pain if you don't mind me asking?

Just an FYI, we did my mums TV scan privately but then the NHS said they have to do it again... We did it in the hopes it sped up the process.

  • I had ultrasounds/hysteroscopy on 16th July and had a letter explaining what was found, blood tests on 18th, MRI on 20th and CT scans on 27th and now waiting to hear. I was told case meetings were held on a Thursday and had a phonecall on 22nd to say about the MRI and CT being needed. I have pain on my left side but the mass is on my right, general 'heaviness', bloating and indigestion. Hope you hear soon - the waiting is horrible

  • Hi

    Thank you ..

    I don't know what a FY1. Is ?

    yes I have other symptoms

    Lower abdominal pain cramps

dreadful Irritable symptoms honestly the pain

lots of flatuence , indigestion heaviness down below

but I've got a posterior prolapse so that could be the reason. .

I had hysterectomy 24 yrs ago

only my left ovary was left for menopause reasons

That's why I don't understand such sharp groin pain in my

right leg .. I can't stand or walk at times

back pain is dreadful doing right down my leg to my foot

    that's why I had MRI

these symptoms have been going on a long time

no one ever mentioned Ovary symptoms

but when. I researched  them I've got lost of them

    which is soo worrying

    I wasn't red flagged apparently I don't met Criteria

    but I feel I do ..

that is  why I'm paying for private consultant

the worry stress is making everything worse .
