Hysteroscopy - anyone had this & can share their experience?

I had a recent CT which is showing something at bottom of my uterus. Consultant wanted to see me within 2 weeks and I have appointment next Thursday. The letter today said it's likely I'll need a hysteroscopy on the day. I'm nervous. Can anyone tell me what it's like to have that procedure done please?

  • Hi

I've had one, not the most pleasant of things to be honest but not the worst either. I had one for a post menopausal bleed that was unexplained. Chair with stirrups,  dr inserts camera through cervix, was painful but not so much that i couldn't stand it just gritted my teeth (i have had children) that said lady at my work could not stand the pain so had to be done under anesthetic. Everyones pain threshold is different, dr took a couple of biopsies whilst he was at it. I was asked to cough as he grabbed these. Hope this helps

Best of luck to you, you'll be fine having the actual procedure done, they're routine nowadays.

Wishing you all the best with your results.

    Xx

  • Thank you for replying. It'll just be a relief to have it done and out the way and hopefully get some answers.

I've been in stirrups before when having my oldest child, she was 10lb 4oz and I was struggling pushing her out, so stirrups will be fine x

  • Sounds like you'll have no problem at all with the procedure baby over 10lb this is nothing by comparison.

Walk in the park and all done in about 30 mins.

Mine was all clear so nothing more i can tell you other than i have everything crossed for you that all is well and you get good results back.

    Take care

    Xx

  • I had hysteroscopy today and a polyp removed (Doctor thinks that it looks ok) The pain was like a bad period pain.I had googled and read some horror stories but it wasn't that bad.I took pain killers and hour before which may have helped.I have some bleeding and cramps now but not too bad x
