Urgent CT

My GP phoned this afternoon to say she'd like to refer me urgently for a CT scan, as the recent ultrasounds didn't show anything obvious. They are concerned as to why my bloods are high though and want a more thorough investigation. Do CT scans show more than ultrasounds? I told her about new symptoms that have started since I last saw her and she's marked it as urgent. Another anxious wait although I'm relieved I'm not being fobbed off

  • A CT scan takes pictures of the entire area that is scanned. I get mixed up between that and MRI's, but i think a CT scan takes pictures in slices. It's a superior and more detailed version of a normal x ray.

An ultrasound is good for scanning surfaces of organs such as the liver, kidneys etc etc. But if they're want the entire picture of a certain organ/area, they will use a CT or MRI.
