Very high FIT test result

Hello all,

I'm a 50+ man and got the result of my second FIT test yesterday. To be honest am feeling a bit freaked out - actually majorly freaked out. Reason for the test was that I've had intermittent mild abdominal pain for about 6 months. I assumed it was a muscular problem when clearly it wasn't.

The result of the first test was over 900 and the second around 1000. So there's little doubt there's blood in the samples (even though none was visible). My GP has made an urgent referral to the colorectal clinic at the hospital. It's hard not to google things like this when you're in shock (have tried to only read stuff from reputable sources), and I understand that there are a number of things that can be causing blood in the stool: ulcers, polyps, hemorrhoids as well as cancer. Though looking through different forums, I've not seen anyone report figures like this and things feel pretty bleak today.

Not really sure why I'm writing this, as I realise nothing new will be known until I get the referral/have colonoscopy. Maybe it's just to know that other people are going through the same thing, or even just understand what I'm talking about. Thanks for reading :)

  • Hi, so I have recently turned 22 and for the last 1.5 years been having problems in my lower left bowel. I’ve been brushed off with all my symptoms as “I’m too young” and I got told to do a FIT test where my result was 200. I’m very scared. I have pain the area, which hasn’t been as bad for the last 6 months so I just trusted what doctors said about not being concerned, however, now I know there’s blood in my poo has me worried. I’ve also got a hard mass in the area. I know it might not be cancer but hearing about the rise in colon cancer in people my age has me worried, also the fact is been an ongoing problem for 1.5 years. I’m being referred to the hospital in 2 weeks then for a colonoscopy. Hearing some people having 800+ though makes me less worried but it’s still stressing me out a lot.

  • I had my fit result yesterday and it’s 200

im only 36 with two chidren

im so worried and can’t stop crying I know it could be other things causing it but as soon as you hear that word you can’t get it out of your head

  • I’m 37 & can’t help but read & worry! All symptoms that I have mentioned at various times since getting Covid for 2 weeks not needing hospitalisation. It caused me a new mountain of problem after problem!
due to age I was not even offered a fit test until recently having also emphasised extreme weight loss with sickness.
you will hear soon & at least get basic answers that same day- peace of mind to some degree (hopefully?!)

take care & keep in touch

    C Xx

  • Yeah in a weird way I just want to know now. I can’t think or function properly. I just keep looking at my kids.
I am deffo overthinking it though and google and obsessing over it now.
yesterday I had a mini panic attack I do suffer with anxiety as it now this on top of it

  • The best advice I can give to any of you is to not panic as it really could be anything. The chances of it being anything sinister are quite small.

Google is the worst place to look as everything on there seems to point to the worst case scenario. If I go through anything like this again Google is something ill definitely avoid.

I know the anxiety is an absolute nightmare but you have to try and get on with your life in the meantime until you get to the root cause of the problem.

Nearly 18 months after my diagnosis I still occasionally see a bit of blood but I know this is down to what I've been diagnosed with. Unfortunately there's no cure. Medication everyday helps keep that at bay. Obviously if it started to get a lot worse I'd go back to my gp.

I hope you all get through this though and are fine. I really do know how you feel.

    Best of luck.
