Doctor thinks husband may have Prostate cancer with mets

My  79 year old husand is being referred for CT scan for ? prosate cancer with mets. HOwever he has never shown any signs and symtons of prosate cancer or mets. His blood test has shown very high PSA levels which is why the Dr thinks he has prostate cancer. Has anyone had experience of this as I am in total shock and very worried about his progosis.

  • Hi Delhi, really glad side effects are minimal and he is keeping going with minimal changes.

I was feeling alot better off my strong hormone therapy meds but cancer count increased, so back on meds see what happens next.

My wife is back on antibiotics again having infection in water. Again.

  • HI Billy, hope all is well with you and Brenda. I hope since getting back on meds you are in a much better position now.

Mike had his third chemotherapy treatment on Friday. This time round he has had more side effects - diarrohea for two days which he did not have with the last two. Do the side effects get worse as the treatments increase?. He is definitely more affected this time round. Having said this , Mike is still playing tennis, although he cancelled today as he felt weak due to having the runs.  He was told on Friday that his PSA was 0.02 which is good we were told.

I can see that Mike is loosing weight especially from his face and I am not sure what I can get him to eat to put weight on. Do you have any ideas plase?.

  • Hi Delhi, side effects dont vary much apart from loosing energy usually, remember his immune system is lower so quite easy to get a bug to cause diarrhoea and nothing to do with chemotherapy side effects.

Where food is concerned as long as he is eating well, weight should go on after treatment, remember his body is taking a beating through treatment and is fighting back so quite a bit going on even if can't been very much.

I lost alot of weight but put more on than i lost.

Glad he's still doing tennis and badminton.

Brenda is as good as possible on permanent antibiotics because of uti.

    Billy

  • HI Billy thanks for your comforting words.  Thank goodness Mike has got over his episode of diarrhoea now. He is definitely feeling the side effects more this time round, however at least he has the will powrer to carry on with his sporting activites.

Good to hear that Brenda is doing ok. Take care of yourself as well Billy and please keep in touch as its always good to hear from you.

  • Hi Delhi  really glad hubby is still managing sports, hope he knows to relax when his body needs to, keeping fit really does help as well as keeping positive just hope he doesn't push himself to much. It won't harm him just drain him alot more quickly. And he'll take longer to get energy back.

Im doing OK taking things easy still cleaning house and garden slowly talking to oncologist next Friday about these meds, and my endocrinologist on Monday about same meds. Hormone jab Tuesday, covid booster next Saturday so busy week had blood test Monday, starting to feel like a pin cushion.

Brenda still good and well  ,very bossy. Again always a good sign.

    Billy

  • HI Billy, great to hear that you and Brenda are donig well. I know what you mean by feeling like a pin cushhion. Mike said exactly the same thing. The number of times he has been to the hospital since he was diagnosed with Prostate cancer has made up for him never having a hospial appointment until he reached the age of 79 years old this year!! We are going on holiday from Sunda in the Uk for 9 days as it will good for Mike to have a break from his chemotherapy treatment.

When we are back he has a telephone review with  the Consultant Oncologist so hopefully it will be encouraging news. Take care of yourselves and I look forward to your posts.

  • Hope holiday weather is good and you both have a lovely time. Really glad side effects are minimal.

I've been told to stop my enzalutamide again so i feel better, my last psa is 9.7 so it's going up,and I'm getting booked in for urgent ct and bone scan. To see if it's spreading again. Couple of years ago it jumped to 65 so I'm not worried yet. Brenda is still very bossy.

    Billy

  • HI Billy, just thought I would provide an update on our journey and also find out how you and Brenda are doing. We got back on Tuesday from a lovely holiday and it did Mike the world of good. He did let himself go, eating and drinking all the things he shouldnt have, however at least he enjoyed himself. His latest PSA is a stable 0.02 down from 57.8 and his alkaline phosphatase is also down from 213UL to a healthy 60. The nurses are very pleased with Mike as I am and I am keeping eaverything crossed it stays like this for a very long time. He continues to play tennis and badminton so remains quite active and is now back to his well balanced and healthy diet!.

Hope you had posistive results about your CT and bone scane and you continue keep well and Breanda is doing ok. It will be good to hear how you are both doing. Take care.

  • Hi Delhi, Brenda really good only trouble is she can tell when im struggling and worrying which isn't doing her good.

I've had ct scan not got bone scan till week Monday then waiting for results and what happens next. Im feeling ok most days just not doing over much without rest.

Wish i had Mike's energy very jealous. Hope you're keeping well.

    Take care keep positive.

    Billy

  • HI Billy, hope the scan results were positive and you are doing well. Regarding Brenda worryng about you its not easy for wives, partners to stop worrying , so I can empathise with her. I also worry a lot about  Mike and likek Brenda he can also tell if I am. What I find best is to talk about things with him and this has helped both of us. Take care and let me know how you get on.
