Colonoscopy tomorrow- scared what they will find

Hey im looking for some advice please. Really anxious and nervous about my colonoscopy tomorrow. I have already had a flexi sig and they found patchy unceration and acute inflammation but they didnt really say that was what was causing my symptoms.
I am 30 years old ald and have had blood in stool for around 4 weeks now. Mild abdominal pain, bloating and excessive gas. Im so scared that its cancer.

  • I was in hospital for 6 days including over the weekend and things moved really slowly. However on my discharge letter I was told that id have an urgent colonoscopy within 2 weeks. So im glad ive had this date to look forward to.

whilst in the hosp i had an abdominal xray which showed inflammation on right hand side however they only done a flexi sig which i have only now just figured out goes up and to the left. Why didnt they do the full colonoscopy at that point?!
I cant think about anything else at the moment. Literally every time i go to the toilet its loose stools containing blood.
I really hope you dont have to wait that length of time. My advice would be to go to A & E if things arent progressing as quick as youd like.

  • Hi,

Sorry to jump on this thread. Can I just ask why you are not being referred on the 2 week cancer pathway with your symptoms?

I'm 32. I've had lower abdominal pain for around a year now, various tests have all come back clear. I'm personally convinced it's Bowel Cancer because nothing else has come back but I'm struggling to get seen for a colonoscopy. The waiting list is months and months!

I hope the both of you are completely fine - we must remember that our bowels are so highly affected by stress and worry and there are so many other things it could be. It's so hard to find people to speak to.

    Best of Luck! x

  • I would push for the cancer referral. Maybe go back to your Dr and ask. Ultimately, it's not normal to have blood so it shouldn't be pushed aside based on age!

That does all sound very stressful indeed!

Keep in touch, let me know how you get on x

  • Best of luck. I will say that a year ago I had some similar symptoms to you - rectal bleeding (on the tissue though, no blood in the actual stool), gas and trapped wind, some cramps and on-and-off loose stools. The specialist told me that as I was only 40, I'd be "the unluckiest person in the world" if it turned out to be cancer.

It turned out to be hemorrhoids, probably combined with the stress of the whole thing and some coincidences.

  • I had my colonoscopy today and it went a lot better than I thought. Drinking the Moviprep was definitely the worst part about the whole thing.

Anyway no cancer was found however I have inflamed, swollen and red colon. Suspected IBD 26 biopsies taken- They think chrones.

  • I'm so pleased that no cancer was found! Anything else should be manageable. Best of luck to you going forward! X

  • Hi I'm new here so still getting the hang of this and think I've just worked out how you add people LOL x sorry to hear about your trouble :( it's so stressful ! X I had my smear test and waited nearly 5 weeks for the results which came on Saturday and told me I am he HPV positive and borderline changes to the cells in my cervix which sounds wierd but I kinda already had a feeling something would come back, I can't explain it.. But I'm on usually calm but then today I have received an appointment for my colour Poska be on the 20th of June which has made me a little bit nervous as that's only like 3 was away! and I wasn't worried until now because people on this group said that they have been waiting nearly 8 weeks ect.. for their colposcopy appointments so I'm thinking why is mine a bit quick x

  • I wouldn't worry about how quick it is, lots of hospitals have different ways of categorising things and depending on area will have shorter waiting lists etc.

The sooner the better and it can all be over with! x
