Worried it’s cervical cancer?

Had colposcopy when I was pregnant last year due to pain, heavy periods, pain during sex and bleeding after, they found pre cancerous cells. Always had issues with periods, pains for years. I have implant now which I had when younger stopped my periods completely. Now I have been bleeding for 3 weeks, so painful. So worried I have cervical cancer as have all the symptoms I have two baby girls. Did anyone have abnormal cells and came back clear? Thanks x

  • Hello izzyx and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear you've had these issues for a while. It's good that they were able to do the colposcopy when they found the pre-cancerous cells. As you have been bleeding and are in a lot of pain, it's definitely worth flagging this with your doctor if you haven't done so already. Try not to worry too much though as there are so many things it could be other than cervical cancer but it's important to have it looked at.

I hope you manage to speak to your GP about your symptoms soon and that they are able to tell you more about what has caused these issues. I also hope that you will hear from other members of the forum who have been in a similar situation before and that they will be happy to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Izzyx! I have had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy in the past year for stage 3 invasive breast cancer and am now on drugs to hopefully prevent a reoccurance. I am answering your post because years ago when I was 29, I was, like you, bleeding after sex and had very painful periods. I had a smear test which came back with the result of pre cancerous cells which I believe is the stage between abnormal cells and cancer. I had laser surgery to remove part of my cervix with the pre cancerous cells. It was a day case in hospital with a painless but rather unpleasant recovery(nasty smelly discharge for a couple of weeks). The good news is that I have no further trouble "down below" so please try not to worry. Abnormal cells or even pre cancerous cells do not mean that they will become full blown cancer. It's been found early so please go ahead and get it treated as quickly as you can and get on with your life. I was lucky that mine was found in time and I'm sure you will be lucky too. Keep your chin up, keep positive  and if you want to chat then I'm happy to offer whatever support that I can. Sending a big virtual hug, Mog, x
