Private back to NHS

Hi.. so during an X-ray for something else doc found complex cyst on my ovary. Went private & consultant didn't seem that worried but recommended full hysterectomy & possible Omentum removal & said would have to refer to mdt as it was complex with intermediate risk of malignancy. Ca-125 was 36 and I'm pre menopause. In my head I'm still lower end of risk scale.

anyway mdt agreed on full hysterectomy but want Omentum removal too and asked for ct of lungs. This set alarms bells off but consultant says it's normal to check everything as they don't know how cysts react

does this mean it's confirmed cancerous?

  • Hello Karategirl

I'm sorry to hear about the rollercoaster that you find yourself on at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about what may be going on with this complex cyst, the upcoming surgery, and why the team wants to arrange further tests.

We know that often Consultants request further tests and that this can cause anxiety and worry to the patient whilst they're waiting. It's important that the team has all the information they need so that they can be sure that whatever treatment they recommend is in your best interests.

Whilst you're waiting for these next steps I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat things through with one of our team of nurses? I'm sure they will be happy to offer any information, advice, and support that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for the additional CT Scan and that the results bring some reassurance. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • My complex ovarian cysts were removed last year . I had the scans ect pre operation and they were fine, my oncology surgeon was lovely and listed me even though I had been told by the registrar that they would not operate you don't know who to believe. My surgery was difficult due to extensive adhesions due to previous surgery and took 4 1/2 hours most of the surgeons would have bailed out and left them in situ  lm glad l had her . It did mean 5 days in hospital and took a while to get back to normal.
The multiple biopsies were fortunately benign, l hope you have a similar outcome.
    take care

  • Thank you Susie, yea I am hoping for best, your story has given some reassurance / hope.

    thank you

  • I worked for the NHS for 30 years and they are now good with cancer care better than anything else like orthopaedics, max fax it tends to be hips ect that are waiting so very long. I would consider private for orthopaedics they tend to be more. predictable and fixed price 9 thousand for ankle op 15 for a knee, although my friend is in NHS hospital at the moment having had a knee on Friday, now not expecting to come home for another week.
best wishes to you and your husband
