Urgent 2ww referral gynae

Hi, Im a woman 55 who has had the mirena coil for about 15 years now. Last one put in 6 years ago. I was told by the consultant this would be the last one needed.
I believe I'm in the menopause as have hot flushes etc . But as no bleeding not sure about periods. About a month ago started a discharge which was diagnosed over the phone as infection. Went away but came back and have had show of blood. Had doctors consultation this morning and now booked in for scan on Monday as urgent 2weeks suspicion of cancer.
man absolutely numb and obviously really scared.
anyone else any experience of this

thanks

lisa

  • I'm very sorry for the worry this is causing Lisa.

I think it's only natural to be feeling a bit scared and daunted by the 'suspicion of cancer' that has been mentioned but I hope this information we have about urgent referrals will help put your mind at ease.

I hope some of our members will share their experiences with you soon as well but in the meantime, I just wanted to wish you all the best for tomorrow and let you know we'll be thinking of you.

Fingers crossed everything turns out o.k Lisa but if you want to talk any of this through with one of our nurses, they're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards,

  • Just wondering how your scan went and if you had referral to gynae afterwards? Hope all went okay. X

  • Hi, it took me a week to get through to doctors for result. In the meantime had an outpatient appointment yesterday.

upshot is they couldn't see much on the scan due to the coil. So booked in for hysteroscopy in two weeks under ga.
also got a telephone appointment with gp end of May for non urgent telephone consultation.

so bit longer to find out !!

    thanks for asking

  • Good luck with the hysteroscopy. At least you haven't long to wait.

It's possible you could be told something at hospital after GA.

Depends on how the clinics are organised. No harm in asking if they'll tell you anything if you're desperate to know. And good to have GP consultation booked in for any residual questions or report if that's the only way they'll give it to you.
