Delay to breast core biopsy results....

I had a core breast biopsy at the end of march and was booked an appointment 10 days later to collect my results

The day before results day I had a call saying the results weren't back yet and they added an extra week waiting time , so now due to get them this Friday.

Anyone else in a similar situation? I don't know if the delays are due to Covid related staff shortages (which would make sense ATM) or because they found something than needs further tests?

I just wish they had told me why they were delayed! Naturally I would be a lot less concerned if I knew it was due to staff shortages....

If anyone has had a similar experience at this current time?

Hi Kandykate, Plumlet, Songbird & Suty,

There are many delays due to Coid. However there are also seasonal delays. Chances are that some of your care staff are on holiday for Easter, especially if they have children. Try not to think the worst - there is often a very simple explanation. I hope that you all hear soon. In the meantime please remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Songbird,

Oh well in that case I shall call it Christopher after my ex-husband...he was an extremely aggressive and malignant lump that I had to get removed.

Take care, I'll look out for your update

  • Hi Suty,

Yes I think you're right about it not being anything negative.

I was told today that my appointment was moved on a week due to Good Friday.

Best wishes for your results

  • Hi Kate,

I think everyone is right, covid staff issues and Easter holidays are causing the delays.

The Secretary rang me first thing thismorning and confirmed that my appointment was moved due to no clinic on Good Friday, she said the consultant must have got it muddled thinking clinic was Thursdays. She aslo said there doesn't seem to be any delays in the labs here so I should be OK for the 22nd still.

Fingers crossed for us all!

  • Hi Plumlet,

Every lump should have a name - it makes it more dealable with! I will let you know what I find out when I find out.

At the moment one of my 'disolvable' stitches is itching and catches on my pants as it seems my surgeon has done some kind of 'blanket stitch' with a spikey knotty bit at the end. I have to remove my clothing very very carefully! If it wasn't so close to a bank holiday I may have tried to get into the GP's to get someone to snip it off -  if it wasn't where it is, I would've had a go myself - but I can't turn my head like an owl. The memory of Lenny lives on - still a pain in the bum even after he's left xx

  • Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

Regarding the delays, I had a (oral) biopsy taken on the 18th of March. They told me it'd take 10-14 days for the results back, so I called the post-op number they gave me, on the 1st April, and asked them about the results. I received a letter on the 4th with an appointment they booked for me on the 9th of June, but no biopsy results. I've asked my GP about my results, but they said the don't have them and that I should speak with the consultant from the hospital about it. I rang the (automatic) post-op number on the 8th, and asked about the results again, but no one's come back to me just yet.

Hope everyone else is doing better and getting their results sooner x

  • Hi Songbird,

Oh how annoying...have you got any strip plasters, thr ones you cut to size as you could loop it over the knotty bit for now? Or cut the sticky sides off an ordinary plaster so the sides are open ( and not stick to your other stitches ).

Sometimes you can get a nurse appointment quickly if you explain you literally need someone for 1 minute!

  • Hi Sorrynel,

That's really sad to hear you've been waiting so long and still longer to wait.

Try and speak to your consultant's secretary, hospital switchboard can put you through if you don't have details already, they are usually very helpful.

    Good luck

  • Hi Plumlet,

I managed to get some of those, surgical plasters at the pharmacy - not waterproof,  but I put them on after I shower. Joking aside it is still less than 2 weeks since I had my growth removed.  I am scared to have a bath - but ultimately that will possibly soften this remaining suture.  The scar itself is really tender - not inflamed  but sore and very lumpy- almost like Lenny is still there. And being honest until I know different I would swear there are remnants of him residing there. Like everyone else I am holding on for an answer and I really appreciate your replies!

  • Hi Songbird, It does take a while for stitched areas to flatten out. I had a cluster of moles removed ( biopsy benign )  a few years ago and it was sort of lumpy and prickly for a long time and inconveniently level with my bra strap which still irritates me and looks like a stab wound!

I removed my biopsy dressing tonight, should have been Saturday but I do seem to take longer to heal so left it longer. There was hardly any bruising and a tiny red mark, I remember talking to the nurse about wanting to avoid the shower and she saidsthats probably a good thing since I've got a water meter and gas bills going up....its the little things.

I'm sure they got all of Lenny out but I imagine it will be easy enough to check.

Sleep well, another day done
