Mammogram

Hi - I woke up Wednesday last week with a red streak across my right breast which then disappeared and turned into a red mark near my nipple accompanied by a pain in my arm pit. Had a phone consultation with GP and she suspects Mastits (although not breastfeeding) - I asked for a mammogram in case and she has told me to wait two weeks to see how it is then.

Shall I wait two weeks or call again and ask for a mammogram??

Has anyone else experienced this?

(for reference I'm 23 with history of breast cancer in family)

  • Hi Lily,

I understand that a family history of breast cancer itself can be a worry. You're absolutely right to go to your GP with any changes to your breasts though.

Your GP should be aware of the family history and has a referral checklist of symptoms for women under 30 which is the guideline for 2week referral s for mammogram or ultrasound scan.

Just my opinion but the GP hasn't seen you to examine your breast , it's difficult to make an accurate diagnosis over the telephone, so  perhaps book a face-to-face appointment for 2 week's time but you can always cancel if your symptoms have gone.

Try not to think the worst , not all breast issues are due to cancer
