Awaiting breast clinic appointment. Anyone else?

Hi, iv been referred for a one stop breast clinic appointment after a ct  scan showed i have 3cm growth on my left breast. I had no idea it was there i  am currently waiting for someone to ring me with an appointment. Which is taking a lifetime.

Iv been reading some posts on here and everyone I so lovely supportive of each other, i really dont want to worry my family anymore than i already have, with my fears etc. I was wondering if anyone here is going through the same thing or is currently on their wait and would like to chat.

    Hi Minnie,

I am sorry to hear about this delay, as every day feels like a lifetime at this stage. Why not phone your surgeon's secretary and say that you are prepared to take any cancellations that come up?  Some clinics are experiencing a lot of cancellations, due to Covid amd they are glad to be able to fill these up at short notice.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Minnie

Like you I find it hard to tell if lump is moveable or not. I just feel it is huge and that can't be good. Yes I was referred on the 2ww and I got a call last week about the appointment. Can't understand this 3-6 week wait for you-  that would be putting me off my head. Can you speak to the consultant? ?? I got a cancellation so check you are on that list

    Hi Minnie,

With an urgent appointment, we should all be seen within 2 weeks, but this has been considerably longer in some area, due to the impact of Covid. Now that you're on the waiting list, it wouldn't do any hard to advise them that you are willing to take a cancellation.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I'm on the list for cancellation and told them I'm willing to travel to a different trust, so fingers crossed I hear something soon. I'm guna ring everyday anyway to whoever I can. The booking office girl told me to ring gp and tell them about 2nd lump and to ask if gp can send another referral to see if this might speed things up for me. I will try that in the morning. So hard to even get a chat with gps atm. Keep yous posted

  • Consultants secretary is off till 23 March  now so can't get through.   I'll try to ring my gp 2moro see if she can help. Keep u posted xx

    Hi Fiona,

I am sorry to hear that you are in this unenviable situation too. Was this your first mammogram? People are often recalled after the first one, because the hospital don't have any further images to compare their findings to. The recall rate for subsequent mammograms is much lower and, recalls don't always indicate bad news.

Your emotions will be all over the place whilst you are waiting to be seen at the breast clinic. Most of us find this. Fortunately, things are seldom as bad as we imagine them to be. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 12 years and I still lead a busy and fulfilled life. Try to keep yourself preoccupied with a project of some sort to help the time to pass.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

Here's hoping that you will have some good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Just wanted to update you - I had my appointment today and it was a large cyst. Such a huge relief. It was hard not to imagine the worst.
Every single person I met in hospital was so kind and compassionate.
So grateful for all the support and encouragement given here too. x

    Hi Maci9,

Thank you for the update. I am delighted to hear that this was just a cyst. Did they drain it for you or was it left alone?  I agree that it's hard not to think the worst but you are living proof that it doesn't always come to that. Only 1 person in every 8 that attend the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Michelle

I'm in a similar boat. I'm 36 with a 2year old. Found a lump & when I went to the GP she found more lumps. Awaiting my 2week referral now but I keep imagining the worst. Every cough, joint pain, chest pain is now terrifying me that it's spread. I can't sleep with worry.

I sorry, I know that isn't helpful, but I guess it's just good to reach out to people who understand and are going through the same.

Best of luck with your appointment. I know statistically we're both likely to be fine. Laura xx

  • Hello again -  yes they drained it for me. I was sure it was solid and immovable but I was completely wrong. So grateful for all the care and kindness shown. X
