Painful lump on armpit

Hi there! I few days ago my boyfriend noticed a lump in his armpit around a centimetre big and painful to touch.

the lamp it's quite firm doesn't really move around so we went the same day to his GP and the doctors said to come back in a week to see if anything changes but both me and my boyfriend suffer with really bad anxiety and I personally looked up on the internet ( yes I know bad idea ) Ofc I found the worst case scenario but I didn't say anything to him cause I don't want to cause more anxiety.
my boyfriend had an history of breast cancer in his family cause his mom had it, she's fine now but you know still happened.

also he had a double mastectomy already over 2 years ago ( he's transgender male ) but I'm still scared it could be cancer and I'm not coping well with it at all.

i don't know what to do I want to tell him to don't wait for next week and book a private ultrasound but than I know I would make him so anxious so I keep it inside.

  • Hello followthedemons and welcome to Cancer Chat,

It's good your boyfriend had this lump looked at by his GP. You're right that looking things up on the internet is never a good idea as it will bring up the worst case scenario and make you even more anxious and it's unlikely to give you an accurate diagnosis. It's a good idea to mention to the doctor that your boyfriend has a history of breast cancer in his family and that he had a double mastectomy over two years ago. Try not to worry too much or anticipate the worst as there are so many things it could be other than cancer. It's only a few days to wait before he sees the doctor again and perhaps the doctor will then be able to advise you on what the next steps might be.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. I hope that you will meet other members of the forum who have been in a similar situation and that they will be along shortly to share their stories with you.

    Best wishes,
