Spotting

Hi everyone I'm currently on day 7 of spotting its brown...I take desogestrel and have been on it just over a year with no bleeding, last week I went to the toilet after intercourse and a large brown clot appeared on the paper and been spotting ever since at one point it changed to a pinky colour now gone back to brown do I need to see gp, my smear tests are up to date, I have no pain, I have mild pain sometimes during sex which I've had for years but doc didn't seem too worried about that and said my cervix looked healthy at my last smear, I've had blood tests done to rule out thyroid issues some advice would be appreciated

  • hi

Its always best to go to a GP or practice nurse regarding any sort of unusual blood loss.
you dont give your age or reason why you take desogestrel which i know is a progesterone only pill so you could using it for contraception or if you are of an age menopausal issues.
Either way its obviously suddenly having a bit of a hiccup. ( althoguh breakthrough bleeding is one of its early side effects but you say you've been on it a year)
Maybe your hormones are changing and it is no longer a good choice for you.
If your blood work is not indicative of any of the main causes of irregular bleeding then maybe they will suggest a ultra sound scan, there can be many things that can cause this which are totally harmless, uterine polyps or fibroids etc. What ever is the cause its always better to investigate early than wait thinking it will just go away if its a blip its a blip, but you'll only be worrying if you dont find out and worry can cause you more issue than probably whats happening down there in the first place.

    Take care x

  • Thank you so much for your reply, I am 33 and taking it for contraception as I say been on it over a year with no bleeding at all not missed any pills either but was forgetting to take it at the exact same time but took it within the 12 hour time frame  I will call and speak to gp as bloods n latest smear all come back.fine and told it looked healthy so very confused but I will call the gp as I suffer with health anxiety also which obviously isn't helping
