Enlarged nodes, awaiting a ultra sound appointment

Hi all. Hope you're keeping well. Ive found this forum when looking up my symptoms and trying to make sense of them. Before Xmas I noticed swollen lymph nodes under both armpits, they look like nodules, they stick out under the skin. Then on Xmas day I noticed a huge swollen lymph node in the crease of my elbow... I freaked but thought.. I would wait and see if I was coming down with something. I never even got a cold. Fast forward to last week, I saw a senior nurse practitioner .She detected all the swollen lymph nodes, took my bloods and said she was going to send me for an ultra scan, treating me as an urgent referral. It's been 6 days and I haven't yet got anything from the hospital so waiting to be seen for my ultra sound. I worry so much that this could be lymphoma. I don't want to be fobbed off so was glad that the nurse took it so seriously. I don't have night sweats, I'm more tired than usual. I wonder why nobody called me to discuss blood results. Are they waiting to see the results of the ultra sound? Xx

  • Hi CG91

I'm sorry that it wasn't the best news, unfortunately I still haven't had results so can't comment directly on what he may of meant or the next steps.

However just because he said they didn't appear normal does not mean its necessarily something really serious like cancer. I know all cancer is bad obviously but it might be reassuring to know that cancer in the lymph nodes is one of the most treatable kinds.

Did the person doing the scan advise on who he would be asking to look at them or when you can expect to hear anything? If not it might be worth ringing the doctor who referred you and see if they know any more and could advise you on what was meant.

Sorry I can't be much more help but I'll be keeping you in my thoughts do feel free to message any time and keep me updated!

  • Hi CG91

Fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long then! I know waiting is the hardest part I think the best thing is to try and keep yourself busy and distracted. I've found reading has been the biggest help to me as it's the only thing that can fully distract my mind!

Hoping you get positive news, do let us know how you get on!

  • Hi Gosia,

Just wondering how you got on with your scan? Hopefully it's managed to put your mind at ease! Wishing you all the best

  • Hi LJ

Sorry it took me so long to reply but I contracted COVID again and just felt too unwell to spend time on devices. At my ultra sound the radiographer did not see anything wrong with my lymph nodes but she found a lump. I got referred to Breast Surgery, as a fast track referral. So awaiting more tests and scans before I get all clear. What about you? How have you been doing? X

  • Hi Gosia,

Oh no hope you're feeling better now after covid!

Thats good news about your lymph nodes but I'm sorry to hear the worry hasn't ended for you just yet. Have they said when or what tests you'll be having? Fingers crossed it's good news for you.

My ultrasound results were normal but my doctor wants to see me again (which I'm pleased about) due to how many nodes there are and because some of them are very swollen so I think they want to try and find out if anything else could be causing them. I'm so glad the doctor still wants to see me as even though the ultrasound was reassuring I'm still worrying a lot about them as they seem to be getting bigger and are occasionally painful now where they never had been before. I've also been struggling with breathlessness and swallowing which I think could be because of how big they are so fingers crossed they figure out what's actually causing them!

Do keep me posted about how you get on!
