Fast-tracked for breast lump - should I be worried?

Hello, I'm 24(f) , I went to the doctors earlier this week about multiple small lumps in my right breast and they referred me for a scan.

This will be the second time I've been referred for a breast scan- I had a cyst before in my left breast. Now I have found small hardish nodules in my other breast. My doctor said the newly-found lumps / nodules were probably nothing to worry about and that I could expect an appointment for a scan in 4-6 weeks.

However, I received a phone call 2 days later saying my scan was in two weeks. Today I received a letter confirming the date. The letter informed me that my GP had fast-tracked me for an appointment.

Should I be concerned that the appointment is sooner than expected and that I have been fast-tracked, or is two weeks via fast-track standard procedure for a breast lump?

(I can't remember how long I waited for my previous scan.)

Was the doctor trying not to worry me? Did they decide that it was more serious than they initially thought? Or is this normal?

I'm a little more worried now.

Thankyou to anyone who can offer advice x

    Hi a33,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Please don't worry about the fast track appointment. Most of us are referred by this. This means that we should be seen within 2 weeks from the date of referral, although it can take a little longer in areas where Covid is an issue.

Not all lumps are cancerous. Many women have naturally lumpy breasts. Others have benign cysts, fibrous or hormonal changes. It is alo much less common for younger people to get a cancer diagnosis, so the odds are in your favour. I do hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jomine xx
