Tonsillectomy on Friday - Possible Lymphoma

Hi,

I have previously posted on here before my ENT appointment which I had the other day.

I have been advised by the doctors that they want to remove my tonsils after one has been inflamed for over a month and two courses of antibiotics and a course of steroids have failed to make the swelling go down along with continuous other symptoms.

They advised at my ENT appointment that there is a small chance it could be lymphoma, as such the surgery has been booked for this coming Friday (six days from now) and they will be sending the lump for biopsy afterwards.

I am quite worried as I am sure you can understand, was just wondering if anyone could tell me about their experiences, whether it turned out to be lymphoma or not. think it would help me if I had an idea as to what I could expect.

How long did it take you to get a diagnosis?

Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated!

  • hi, i have never posted on here but as i read your post its been very similar to my experience recently. i went to the gp with extreme tiredness, night sweats and swollen lymphnodes and one enlarged tonsil. she explained to me it could be lymphoma and i got a 2 week referal to ent who sent me for an mri scan which came back saying my lymphnodes are normal but tonsil was abnormal so i had a tonsillectomy in jan and still waiting for biopsy results. i have since noticed more swollen lymphnodes but tiredness has definitely improved and night sweats have gone. my surgeon said the tonsils looked healthy when i came round from surgery which put my mind at rest, but obviously still a little nervous waiting for them. stay off google and try to look after yourself as much as possible, rest when you need to etc. i think they mention lymphoma to a lot of people because they have to make sure its not that before looking at other stuff. sending lots of love

  • Hi,

Thank you for sharing your experience! it has put my mind slightly at rest,  please keep me updated with your results! would love to know how you got on!

How was the tonsillectomy recovery? did you get to go home quite quickly afterwards?

  • i was in and out the same day, had the surgery at about 2pm and woke up in recovery at about 5pm and left at 8pm, a couple of days later i did wake up choking on blood and had to be readmitted to hospital and the pain does get quite bad. my surgeon just said i had popped a stitch out but id recommend having a hot water bottle or ice pack for the back of your neck and ears and try to keep on top of your pain meds. 1st week was defo a lot worse than the first, by the second week i was enjoying my food again and had a sunday roast haha. they will probably put you on codiene which will make you constipated too so get some tablets to help with that too to make you more comfortable

  • Hi, how did your results go from your tonsillectomy? Hope all was ok xx
