Colonoscopy with sedation experiences?

I have been suffering with abdominal and bowel issues for almost a year now and have just been given a date for a colonoscopy in 2 weeks time. I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy in November and found it unbearable. I used gas and air but the procedure had to be stopped as I was in so much pain and I couldn't stop crying. I'm really nervous about the colonoscopy. I will be having sedation but I've heard you can still feel it even under sedation, has anyone experienced this?

How have you found the colonoscopy?

I'm really scared.

  • Hi there, don't worry! I was in a total panic but it was actually bordering on pleasant . By which I mean I slept so soundly during the procedure, woke feeling aware and not groggy (because it's not anaethstetic, just a sedative) and experienced absolutely no after effects.

I recall arriving in the room, the Dr having a quick word, the nurse rubbing my hand where the sedative would go in.... Then absolutely nothing till I saw my husband for a brief (apparently garbled word) and dozed off again,  then a while later nurse with a tray of tea and toast!
