Ovarian surgery - what can I expect recovery to be like?

Hi everyone

I am due to have surgery on Thurs (covid permitting) to remove a 16cm hopefully dermoid cyst and my left ovary and fallopian tube. Yes it's big, yes I can feel it and yes it's causing me issues bit only really became clear after I'd had long covid. It's not been a good 8 months!

I've been told they will attempt keyhole surgery but it may become open surgery due to the size. What can I realistically expect recovery wise after surgery for either and how long until I can drive, go back to work, feel normal again?

Thank you. The posts here are so helpful x

  • Hi Dottydotdot,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear you've had a dfficult time recently.

If there are others here with similar experience then hopefully they'll be along son so you can receive some replies and info to help you out.

You are also more than welcome to give our nurses a call if you would like to, as they can likely offer a bit of advice to help you prepare. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

I hope it all goes OK next week.
