Breast biopsy - bad news given via telephone?

I just wondered if anyone who has been through this can give any advice. I had a breast biopsy and they said possible fibroadenoma but would do a biopsy. It's 1cm. I have been given a two week wait and a phone call appt for the results. My question is if there was cancer would they wait two weeks and would they tell you over the phone? I called the clinic and asked for an earlier appt and they only could do two hours early. I asked the question that does everyone have telephone calls for the results abs the receptionist said she just gets told who is to have a phone call and who she needs to arrange a phone call gave to face. So they do do face to face appts. Can anyone help? I going out of my mind.

  • Hi,

Can I ask if they gave you the news of your cancer over the phone?

Congratulations on finishing all of your treatment and ringing that bell, what a brave lady xx

  • Hiya.

No, they told me face to face. Thank you, it was a wonderful feeling to ring that bell. Did they tell you over the phoen, and are you getting treatment now? If so, good luck, it's not easy. xxx

  • Hiya. That's brilliant news, good luck. xxx

  • I had a breast biopsy Tuesday before last and havent heard anything, called my GP and they advised I was going to have a phone call on Tuesday but I haven't had any letters or anything saying this.

I just have a bad feeling, the pain since the biopsy has been worse but not sure it's because of the wait and it's in my head. The hospital have been less than helpful and I just feel so alone, am meant to be going on a long awaited holiday in two weeks and just can't even get excited or pack because I feel that worried x

  • That's just terrible, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I can only tell you that I had my biopsy done and was given an appointment for about 6 days later, face to face, where they gave me the diagnosis, that was at the end of June. I was given a date to meet the surgeon on the 1st July, and my surgery was the 3rd of August. That was my choice as I had a holiday booked.

I had no pain before or after being diagnosed, and was extremely lucky that it was picked up on my last ever routine mammogram.

Have you phoned the hospital at all as that is who I was dealing with, didn't speak to my GP at all? I really hope you can get this sorted, you shouldn't be waiting so long for a diagnosis. xxx

  • I have tried and tried calling the hospital, I would say I have rang about 15-20 times. I keep getting passed from pillar to post and end up speaking to the same lady who cannot help.

The breast clinic at the hospital I attended has a direct number but it's an answerphone that they say isn't monitored (although I did leave a message), the general hospital number either puts me through to that answerphone or the breast team at another hospital. My last resort was trying to get some sort of results from my GP and all they said was that I will get a telephone call on Tuesday

Thank you for your lovely words, I guess I will just have to wait again but another weekend ruined x

  • I am just so sad that this has happened to you, what area are you, if you don't mind me asking? As soon as I had my biopsies done, I was allocated a breast care nurse, and when it was confirmed as breast cancer, she was with me all the way through, and I could still ring her now if I needed to. I have an appointment in May to see my surgeon, then she will arrange my first mammogram since surgery, that will be a nervous time. I hope you can enjoy your holiday, and that you hear from the hospital as soon as possible. I'm here if you want to talk. xxx
