Breast pain

Hello,

Not sure where to start but my anxiety is so high I feel writing things down may elevate some fears until I have my drs appointment.

I noticed a lump in my right breast on the right side quite deep down. It was a few weeks ago now and was maybe a week before my period.

I made a telephone appointment with the drs and that same day they offered me a face to face due to the nature of what it was, unfortunately I was at work all day and had to rearrange. They told me to ring up and make another appointment the next day which I did. They then could only offer a face to fave a week later which was Wednesday just gone, however I got covid and had to rearrange to this Wednesday coming.

Since finishing my period I believe the lump has reduced (I'm trying to feel for it less as I think I'm causing myself pain feeling and checking several times a day). I have since noticed (last couple of days) a pain in my right breast, a dull ache that comes and goes. I haven't needed pain relief but I very aware of the pain and its made me very fearful.

My right breast has always been bigger and I have put on weight, maybe an ill fitting bra? Maybe a pulled muscle from my right arm that radiates to my breast? I really don't know and my searching on Google is really not helping. I do believe its tender and never noticed it like this before. The anxiety is literally affecting my day to day living, whisky waiting for my gp appointment, and then the potential other referrals.

  • Hi Ljmile,

I have been reading on this forum for a few days but decided to post as your situation sounds similar to mine! A week before my period was due I found a hard area in my left breast that felt similar to when I had a blocked duct when I was breastfeeding but I haven't done for over 2years! Over a few days it then turned into a lump. I contacted the gp and as I had a slightly raised temperature she wouldn't see me until after a negative PCR, which took ages to come back. When I saw her last week she could feel the lump and my temperature was still raised so I was given antibiotics in case of infection/mastitis. I have finished those and the lump is still there. The lump has possibly reduced and does seem to if I apply heat to the area, but I have since found another one in a different area of the same breast! My anxiety is very high and I keep thinking the worst! I lost my Mum to cancer 2 years ago (not breast) and I also have a young child. I have always been anxious anyway but this is on my mind constantly! I have to speak to the GP again tomorrow and she will likely refer me to the breast clinic as it is still there. I am dreading it all! I also think I have made it worse pain wise as I keep touching it! It was painful during my period but less so now! My GP did think it's likely to be a cyst or fibroadenoma by the feel of it, but she didn't actually feel the other lump as I found that after, so I can't help but think the worst! I just hope it's hormonal or something. I also had the covid booster a couple of weeks before it started so wonder if that could be linked but no idea! The other jabs did mess with my hormones and periods were affected so I really hope it's something like that. I am here if you ever want to chat x

  • Hi Mrs RL

sounds like a lot of us are feeling particularly anxious right now. I'm waiting on my clinic appointment and feel very similar, it's a rollercoaster that's for sure. Best thing to do is exactly what you have done and speak with your GP, I'd get my call in ASAP if you think they will make a referral as you don't want to extend any waiting.

I'm not normally an anxious person but I do like to be in control so this has me very stressed out. I completely understand your fears. Let's keep our fingers crossed for us all.

  • Thank you. Yes I will

    Xx

  • Good luck for today Vegmum! Let us know how you get on x

  • I am back from my appointment and so thankful to say there was nothing of concern. I had a consultation, mammogram and ultrasound. The consultant said it was likely glandular tissue causing the area of hardness. Could have been a cyst that ruptured causing the pain but didn't think so because you can usually see that on an ultrasound. So the pain remains a bit of a mystery.

The glandular tissue we could both feel is likely because of my age (41) and recent weightloss (3.5 stone)

Best wishes and thinking of you all waiting to be seen xx

  • Hi Vegmum, so pleased to read your update and that it is good news. You must be very relieved! Take care x

  • Thank you, I am so relieved. I had got myself in such a state over the last nearly 2weeks I've barely functioned.

Take care and best wishes xx

  • Bless you, I can imagine! I'm the same at times at the moment! Thank you, I will update on here when I finally get seen x

  • Just an update from me. I spoke to the GP and she has referred me to the breast clinic. I have already had an email from the surgery to confirm my appointment for 31st January. I am partly relieved and partly terrified! The GP did reassure me that she doesn't think it is anything sinister but wants me to be seen to be on the safe side and rule anything else out. It says on the letter it will take 3-4 hours as it is a one stop shop x

  • Hi Mrs RL

I'm glad to hear you've got your app and that your GP has given you some reassurance. Didn't realise its such a lengthy day at the clinic but sounds like you'll get all the information you need to know that day.

I've had my GP app and after some searching she found my lump, it's deep and definitely has reduced from when I found it. She said she wasn't too concerned about the pain but everyone over 30 gets a referral for 2 week wait at breast clinic. So will wait for that and see what happens from there :)

  • That is definitely positive. My consultant today said if a symptom is sinister it doesn't get better only worse. I still have pain even after my all clear today. Hope you get your date soon xx

  • Hi Vegmum

Thanks for your reply. I saw your update and what a great result :). Glad you got seen and got the all clear. I definitely feel some aching again since my consultation but to be expected xx
