Indeterminate breast calcifications

Hi, has anyone else had this issue?  I went into breast clinic with another lump (I've had numerous fluid filled cysts over the last four years).  That was all fine but they flagged up calcifications on the other side.  I was really shocked.  I've got a biopsy next week and I'm in that horrible inbetween place of not knowing and worrying.  Is this likely to be DCIS?  Thanks x

  • Hello Positive T and [@Linze16]‍

The op went really well thank you. I got home at about 9pm last night so it was a long day. As I had suspected, having the wires put in was the worst bit - it was uncomfortable with lots of pushing and pulling to make sure they were exactly in the right place. It took about 90 minutes including the scans before and after and the mammogram after. The doctor who did them was so lovely and positive. She kept telling me that they only use wires for small lesions and how incredibly lucky I was that they had been found so early when none of the doctors/consultants could see the puckering that I could see. I had the same nurse who did my biopsy which was nice and she reckoned someone has been watching over me - maybe time to buy a lottery ticket!!

The op itself was fine - a lovely sleep though I was a bit fed up when they woke me up! They gave me some morphine for the pain and then some liquid paracetamol on a drip and ibuprofen before I went home. I thought I would sleep really well but annoyingly I was completely wired processing the day and only got about five hours. Sleep is not my thing at the best of times.

Today, I've only taken the paracetamol and ibuprofen today and the pain iss fine, really maneagable. The affected breast is covered in dressings which I can't get very wet and is swollen - probably the first time in years that it could hold a pencil under it. It's about the size I've always wanted ironically.

Back next Tuesday to have the dressings checked and then 3 weeks for the results - I thought it was two but I guess half term is in the way

Everyone I met was so lovely - caring, kind and informative. I couldn't fault the care. Having not been in hospital since I had my youngest 17 years ago, I'd forgotten what an amazing job they do.

Sorry for the long-winded update but I thought it might help anyone else who may be going through a similar experience.

Thank you both for thinking of me.

    xx

  • Hi Bubblesmum,

So pleased to hear that the surgery went to plan and that you found the team around you to be so lovely and supportive :-)

Wishing you a speedy recovery and hoping for some good news in three (eek) weeks time.

    Take care x

  • Thanks - wishing you the very best of luck for your results on Friday xx

  • Bubblesmum, that all sounds like a very positive experience! I'm sure your results will be fine too, so don't stress about them. It's all out now, thank God!

Glad to read you're not in too much pain either. Prayers for quick healing for you xxx

  • Wishing you a speedy recovery.  Well done for getting through all that.  Sounds as if you had wonderful care.
Waiting is always the worst.  You're probably right in that half term will hold up a week dammit!   At least you will keep busy and it will go quickly.

    All the best.

    Mary xx

  • Hi Mary

Thank you - I do feel a sense of relief. Please let me know how you get on next week. The waiting is definitely the worst. But keeping busy helps and I'll probably be back at work by then.
