HPV dyskaryosis

Hi

I had lower abdomen pain and bleeding, called GP's.

Nurse was lovely and checked everything. 8 months late for smear , so she done that and letter back to say HPV low grade and booked in for coloscopy in February. They said they would call if any cancellations.

I'm a bit worried as I've had symptoms of lower abdominal pain and weird bleeding, bright red since the beginning of December. I'm fatigued too. My bloating is noticeably and can't do up trousers.anything tight hurts, and weird feelings.

Should I tell them about this as I can't see on Google that this is a common symptom, it seems most people don't have symptoms, they are told after there routine smear. I had lots of pain early December and my colleagues in health said to call 111 as I was sweating with the pain and bleeding.

I haven't read any symptoms like this for low grade.

Another question I have is that do they check for anal HPV , do women with this in cervix possibly have this analy and is it checked.

Thankyou

  • Hi Karlarye and welcome.

Could you clarify what you mean by “HPV low grade” please? High RISK HPV is what causes cell changes and the changes can have several levels, from low to high. HPV in itself doesn’t cause symptoms as such but many ladies with cell changes do report symptoms.

The smear test is only to screen for abnormal cell changes in the cervix, so for women an anal check is not done.

I wouldn’t recommend google for you, as this can be very unhelpful in trying to understand things about HPV. My own knowledge of this is based on my own experience, much research based on evidence from others and only reputable internet information.

Only the colposcopy can determine what is happening with your cervix, but certainly discuss the symptoms you re having when you go for the appointment. I hope it’s nothing serious, and can be easily resolved.

  • Thankyou for replying.

I meant to put low grade dyskaryosis. Not low grade HPV!

I will wait to for my coloscopy and try not to read.

Had more bleeding and felt a bit panicked as have constant fatigue, discomfort and bloating.

I did join the gym this morning and done a gentle work out, so positive healthy thoughts.

    Thankyou

  • Ah,  thanks for clarifying Karlarye.

Positive healthy thoughts are definitely good, as is joining the gym. So, low grade dyskariosis should be easily treated if needed, and depending on the level of cell changes may just need monitoring and no treatment.

Next month will soon come round-it’s not too long to wait in these times of such backlogs.

  • Hi I was just scrolling through and came by your post, ironically I have literally just gone through this process last year, I was stupidly three years late for my smear ( I'm 28) and got symptoms much like you, some vagina bleeding, lower abdominal pain and some shooting pains in my cervix area, I was diagnosed with HPV and high grade dyscariosis, obviously meaning the pre cancerous cells were quite advanced. Luckily though it was caught before it got to a worse stage and I was booked in within a week to have the LLETS procedure which is the removal of the cells with a laser, I now have to go for smears every six months, I found the hardest part about it all was the emotional side as a woman, but please try not to worry low grade can be treated  very easily, I know it's a bit of a scare but please try not to stress yourself out it's amazing what can be done x
