Hi all
I am new here and worried about my 18yr old son.
He recently found a lump on the left side of his neck, so went to see the GP who checked his bloods. They came back normal and he was referred to ENT. He had a phone call within 24hrs telling him to attend the hospital a few days later.
When he went they felt his lump and placed a camera up his nose to have a look around. They said he had inflammed sinuses and said they would send him for a scan to have the lump checked.
After a 2 week wait he went on the 30th. The young gilr let me go into the scan room with him and said the the consultant would be in to preform the scan. She warned us that he was very abrupt and didnt really speak. Thats not what you want to here is it. Anyway he walked into the room and didnt speak or even say hello. He had no bedside manner at all.
After scanning his left side and pulling faces he moved to the right side where i could see this side looked totally different. I didnt know what i was looking at to be fair but it didnt look right compared to the otherside. He took loads more photos of this side than the otherside where he had found the lump. So we were a little puzzled at why he was taking so long on the good side as we thought.
At the end of the scan he asked if the GP had mentioned what he thought it could be. I said he had said it could be HL and he said good. Strange thing to say and i felt like thats what he thought my son had. He promptly left the room and we didnt know what to do.
He then walked back in and said right im now doing your biopsy....... Total shock and my son's face was terrified. After calming him down he agreed to have it done there and then. Consultant injected Local and then went straight in. No waiting for local to actually work. My son was not happy and said it was killing him. consultant didnt care and carried on. I felt helpless.
Once he finished he said go upstairs and wait for another scan. No conversation to explain at all. So off we went hoping they would explaine when we got upstairs. Once we arrived they had been informed we were coming and that he was having a CT scan with contrast dye. They didnt make him wait long so that was good but my son was very upset that nobody had expalined anything to him and the consultant didnt even want to explain anything. All we know is that the biopsy results can take around 2/3 weeks and i only managed to get him to tell me that before he walked out the door.
So can anyone helps me prepare what might be the next step of the process.
Im guessing the consultant thinks it is HL but i dont know because he wouldnt even say hello or speak.
Any advise would be very greatfull.
