MRIs head & orbit

I had an op and radiotherapy for early grade 1 breast cancer which finished in December 21. A week before my radiotherapy my eyelid dropped suddenly amd have had blurred/double vision since. Got sent to ED for usual checks for stroke including CT scan, then referred to opthalmology for further checks. Now being sent for MRI for both head & orbit as they said many of the causes related to Breast cancer. I explained couldn't be the case as I was very low risk amd only stage 1 but has now got me concerned. Has anyone else had this? I'm.usally one who plays everything down.

  • Hi Shazz2_rs.

Welcome to the forum.  I'm not a doctor and I have no medical qualifications.

I can see how the idea could pop into a doctor's head, but there's not really anything to link this to the breast cancer, other than the co-incidence of timing.

That said, since the CT didn't find anything, having an MRI is the next logical step.  MRI can see some things that CT can't, and vice versa, so it's common to have both as part of the process of diagnosis.

MRI scans take a lot longer than a CT.  I suggest finding out how long you might be in the scanner. You can phone the imaging department of the hospital to get an idea. If you're claustrophic you might do well to chat to your GP about getting some Lorazepam for that day - just don't drive after taking it!

Best of luck and happy new year.
