Left breast pain on and off.

Hi,

I am 54  and stopped my periods February this year.  I  first had breast pain in my left breast 3 years ago.  I went to the fast track breast clinic and everything was ok after mamagramm etc.  Now three year later  I  am getting the same thing. Pain in  the left breat. Its like a throbbing pain.  I have seen my GP twice now in the last 4 weeks and she has again made appt at breast clinic. She thinks its hormonal but has to make sure everthing is ok.   I am worried sick.  The Doctor cant feel anything and neither can i.  Im just thinking was the pain 3 yrs again the start of something more sinister now?? Has anybody else had this?  I have felt my breats  and they feel lumpy. I dont really know what i would be feeling for.  I cant sleep and am totally googling stuff. Has anybody had breat pain like this and it has been cancer? My anxiety is through the roof thinking all sorts. Thanks

    Hi Anne,

It is unusual for pain to accompany breast cancer. Some people have naturally lumpy breasts. Here's hoping that your GP is correct and that this pain is just hormonal. Have you received an appointment through for the breast clinic yet?  Here's hoping that it comes through soon.

It is perfectly normal to feel as you do at the moment. Whatever you do, try to stop googling - this will only heighten your anxiety and make you feel worse. Please keep in contact and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Here's hoping for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • hi, interesting to read your story as mine is so similar. I am just 62 but for last 18 months yes 18 months....have been expierancing pains around breast and armpit on right side, I had been to gp who had a feel couldn't find anything , said its hormonal...a few months later I was still in an uncomfortable pain. or heavy achy feeling and after pushing, I was sent for a further appt at a small local hospital....nothing found....it didn't feel right, was necking painkillers and putting a hot water bottle under my arm all time...more calls to gp, kept being told to put pain relief on boob and its not the big c.....made to feel I was wasting their time.  so of course I was not surprised to get a routine mammogram recall...I mentioned my concerns at the hosp appt so the lady doctor spent extra time doing ultrasound on that area...this was after the mammogram had not picked up any lumps...,and surprise surprise I had 4 biopsies and confirmed cancer to breast 2cm tumour right round the edge of breast near where it meets the body....

it really important we check right round the sides too ,

I have had lumpectomy 10 days ago, and full lymph node clearence as it has spread ...not surprising as it was very close to armpit....results appt on 4th Jan. I am so angry and sad I wasn't listened to.  Best case scenario is that the lymph glands have caught it and I will need chemo and radiotherapy which although I'm dreading I know is the right thing to do

I have taken sick leave from work since the day of diagnosis what with covid and a large busy workplace. colleagues and family have been fantastic

let me know how you get on and I will do the same xx

    Hi Hev,

I am so sorry to hear of your experience.

We know our own bodies best and sadly, we sometimes have to really push to get heard. I am glad to hear that you highlighted your concerns when you had your mammogram and that you got the ultrasound which showed up the cancer.

I hope that you are recovering well after your lumpectomy and lymph node clearance. It will be an anxious wait until 4th Jan, but I hope that all turns out well. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 12 years and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. Here's hoping that you will do likewise.

Please let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi all,

I've had pain in my left breast for two weeks now.  Feels heavy.  Nurse practitioner found no lumps and said I had probably pulled a muscle, said to give it six weeks before I go back to GP. 5 days later phoned doctor and she gave me Naproxen as the pain was worse.  Got up this morning and still pain so I phoned a doctor who said I need a referral and now waiting appointment.

Really worried after reading some posts, but makes me pleased that I'm not leaving it any longer.
