Likely lung cancer diagnosis

I hope this OK to post. I'm so worried.

My dad was admitted to hospital on Thursday due to chest pain and an ongoing cough. He has a heart condition so I was preparing to hear that it had worsened. Instead we are now looking at a cancer diagnosis. They spotted a shadow on his xray so he had a CT scan. This showed a mass in one lung, and lymphadenopathy at the centre of his chest. Also a nodule on his thyroid gland. He is due to go back for more tests (he didn't want to stay in hospital).

My question is, does it sound like it has spread outside of the lung? I'm so worried and the wait for tests and results is unbearable. The only symptom seems to be the cough, although he is also being treated for a chest infection.

Thank you, and sending best wishes to you all x

  • Hi again.

Just wanted to update, and also get it off my chest!

My dad went downhill very quickly. Chest pain, struggling to breathe, barely eating or drinking. He was admitted to hospital just before new year. They discharged him with anti biotics saying he had another chest infection. Unfortunately he was readmitted 2 days later. Apparently the tumour and infection has caused his right lung to collapse and the left is struggling to cope. His tests had been delayed due to testing positive for covid and now they are saying he is too ill. They started daily radiotherapy yesterday and he is on IV anti biotics and oxygen. My Dad has other health conditions and is very down. We aren't able to visit due to restrictions and he isn't well enough to talk for long on the phone.

I can't help but think this is the end. I'm struggling to sleep and eat. My little boy is 17 months old so I'm doing my best but finding it hard.
