Anyone tell me about their Locally Advanced Prostate Cancer.

Hi All

First follow up with Consultant yesterday following surgery 9 weeks ago.

Original tests, DRE,MRI,Biopsy,Bloods, apparently pointed towards Localised Cancer however on my consultation yesterday was told its Locally Advanced Cancer. PSA thankfully almost non detectable  (it was low when bloods were done 1.5).

Anyway this has knocked me for six really and I'm worrying whether it has spread or should it return or what. The rest of the consultation was a bit of a blur ( The Consultant didn't have the best "bedside manner).

I'm waiting on a call back from Specialist Nurse so I should get info from her but am wondering if anyone out there who has had LAC has experiences they can share.

Many thanks in anticipation.

  • Hi Diggers.
Sorry to find you here asking for advice -  this chat page has helped me so I like to reply to others.

my dad had prostate cancer diagnosed 8years ago. So I know a little bit about it but not first hand.

When you see a doctor In clinic they should send you a letter of what has been discussed. It is information over load isn't it.often good if you can having another set of ears listening in to the conversation so you both catch bits.
Write down questions -then when you speak to the nurse jot down the answers and you will have better understanding.
Tests biopsy results.staging PSA. Treatment plan. Next appt. follow up etc etc

Stay positive and take each day at a time

  • How's ya keeping Diggers ??

  • Hi Effie

Yeah not too bad.. I had a coversation with my Specialist Nurse yesterday and she is a no nonsense Irish lady. Gave it to me straight, In her words I'm to keep off Googling Dr Google.  She then went on to say if I need advice call the experts ie. her, and not "my mates"......Got a right telling off!

Anyway she will send me a copy of the letter being sent to my GP hopefully will get some sort of answers from there.  Interestingly regarding my cancer grade/stage the Consultant said I am T3C but the nurse said it was T3A (apparently there is no T3C) and she was reading directly off the system?

What I guess I am asking anyone, has anybody been diagnosed with this stage and what is the prognosis. Both the Consultant and the nurse said the main thing now is to hope the PSA levels stay where they are as in undetectable.

I'm guessing when I first posted here I was in a bit of panic (having been told originally that the cancer was localised.)  With that and having to cope with the incontinence and pain in the bladder area I was feeling sorry for myself.  Much better today mentally but the other stuff obviously still ongoing.

Anyway Effie thanks for your post.

Look after your Dad and take care yourself.
