Going through first chemo

At end of week 2 of first EC cycle for TN BC. Feel surprisingly well. Main thing is the psychological side of knowing I'm constantly lugging round a large tumour (around 10cm from MRI)  in my boob. I know the idea is to shrink the tumour before mastectomy but can't get out of my head that the cancer could be growing and spreading further (already got some lymph node involvement).
I am becoming obsessed keep feeling my boob to see if it feels like the lump is shrinking or growing. My boobs feel quite sore aswell. Just hate this!

  • Hey Kiwi21,

I'm glad things are going well with your EC although I'm sorry about the challenging thoughts you've been having about your tumour.

Many of our members have actually had similar thoughts during their treatment so you're not alone in feeling this way and hopefully you'll receive some support and advice from them soon.

I know it will be difficult, but do try and resist the urge to keep touching or checking your boob as it will only make the soreness last longer.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about your treatment or would just like to talk things through with someone then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you well with the rest of your treatment Kiwi.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • I know EXACTLY where you're coming from....so scary isn't it. I stopped poking and prodding because I don't really know what I'm doing. I feel my lump has quadrupled in size!! I just want to know if chemo is working. Ive had only 3 x EC so far, last one next Friday then a scan.

What has your onco been like?  Mine is quite negative generally which freaks me out.

    Keep in touch
