Breast cancer lymph nodes inconclusive

Hi I was diagnosed with breast cancer 16th June. Should of been 9th June but I was away.
The area is 7.5cm. 3 tumours close to each other. I was told grade 3 and mastectomy would be needed. I've been for a mri. Now told the right side is clear. I've been for my pre op assessment last week. No date yet for surgery. I have just called the bc nurses as mine has been off sick for sometime. I still need a biopsy repeating under my left arm pit as it was inconclusive last time. I was told this weeks ago when I go my diagnosis. I know it can take up to 2 weeks to get a result from a biopsy... so I haven't got a clue when my surgery will be.. I'm not sleeping very well. How long did others have to wait for surgery? Thank u

  • Hi My Lovely

The waiting is hard. You just want the cancer taken away!

I had my biopsy results on 5th May. My lumpectomy was on 8th June. It was quite a big area too 7.5cms. I was given option of lumpectomy or masectomy. I went for lumpectomy. Nurse told me that if I'd elected to have a masectomy the surgery wait  may have been slightly longer. Not sure why. Maybe due to surgeon timetables.

They took 3 nodes during surgery, for testing - came back clear.

Hope you get your date soon. Sending love xxx

  • Thank you so much,

I don't know why they are taking a lymph node out before my surgery.... but that's what's holding things up. I haven't got a choice she said I could only have a mastectomy due to the size of the area and the size of my breast.... they can't save the nipple either as the cancer is too close to it.

have you got to have anymore treatment?

    thank u xxxx

  • Morning my lovely.

Treatment options are so different aren't they! I have made a couple of friends through here. We were all diagnosed with breast cancer at a similar time. All three of us in totally different treatment plans. I had no idea how many diff types of bc there are :(. I've gone from knowing absolutely nothing to quite a lot!

    Mine 'was' Grade 3. Hormone +. HER2 -

It was re-graded from a 2 to a 3 after the op. More grade 3 cells than 2's found when they analysed the whole lot.

So .... I've def got to have radiotherapy and take hormone blockers. I saw oncologist last Tuesday. Because I said that if chemo would be of benefit I'd have it, they then sent my cancer to California! There it will be tested to determine whether or not chemo will be of any benefit with regards to preventing reoccurrence. Apparently even though they group types of cancers. Every cancer in that group differs in its genetic make-up! Some cancers in same group will benefit from chemo. Some won't. As in chemo won't effect chances of it reoccurring or not. Hope that makes sense?!?! It's hard to word easily.

My results should be back next week. If chemo found to be of benefit I will begin early Aug. I'm down to have 4 rounds over a 3 month period. If not having chemo radio will start once boob has healed enough. That's 2x 5 day rounds.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask if I've not made much sense! Sending love xxx

  • Morning SlightlyBewildered.

I hope you are feeling ok...

That helps a lot thank you so much. I was told mine was grade 3. It's 3 tumours which are all next to each other total area approx 7.5cm. I was told I'd need radiotherapy and tamoxifen tablet once a day for ten years. They said they are not sure about chemo yet.

it helps talking to people who are going through it. I hope you all don't mind me asking so many questions. I was feeling a bit annoyed yesterday as I felt everything was now slowing down. I think I've just got to be better at waiting

  • Feel free to ask away. This forum has been such a huge help for me. So many amazing people willing to share their experiences and offer support. Especially when it's such a hideous thing to be going through - I feel very thankful.  Not sure what I'd do without it.

I hope you get an update soon re date for surgery. I cannot put into words the relief I felt knowing that the cancer was gone. I burst into tears at my results app when my surgeon told me he'd got clear margins too :)))

Every stage is an emotional rollercoaster. Don't beat yourself up about getting frustrated and impatient, it's totally understandable. As soon as you have a date to work to, things will seem easier I'm sure.
