Breast cancer

Hi everyone, having recently had my mammogram  it's been picked up there's a lump I had a a biopsy and it's grade 3 cancer, they quickly got me in to get it removed and I have just received results that all margins and  lymph nodes are clear, I should have been ecstatic but im just so emotional I have now got the long wait again to see oncologist and find out what treatment I will need, I don't actually know what to ask.  Im just hoping that I can get a little feedback if anyone has had similar, thank you

  • Hi,

just read your post and still at the beginning of my journey - can I ask what size lump it was pls?

ive been recommended to go to chemo first before the surgery and want to understand why they hadn't suggested surgery then chemo.

if anyone can help with this or shed any light I'd be very grateful.

  • hi berks sorry for the late reply, the size of my lump was very small surgeon said size of little finger nail 6mm x

  • Hi Berks

    The hardest journey ever!

Hope this helps - I done chemo first then mastectomy. From what I am lead to believe, it means if the chemo does not take all the cancer away then you will have access to another drug (TDM1) which is great for survival but only if you are given chemo first.

    yayy ! Xx

  • Hi Louise

Can I ask what triple negative means please.  I have recently had a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy but was told that chemotherapy was not necessary.  I'm not really understanding why the treatments differ in different cases.

    Thanks

  • Hi Kazzad21

Triple negative means it doesn't fall into one of the other 3 types , hormone positive, hormonenegative and her 2. So hormone treatment would have no effects.

Some people have chemo then surgery, I had surgery first but at that point thought I had hormone negative.

  • Thank you so much for the response.  Mine was positive for oestrogen and progesterone and negative for Her2 although I'm still confused as to what that actually means.  I'm just hoping that the radiotherapy has worked to ensure that there are no cells left.

    Good luck with your treatment.

  • Hi Louise,

I'm in the same boat as you nearly. My lump was 2.5cm and had a lumpectomy. It was geade 3. All margins clear no lymph nodes. HE2 neg but hormone positive (only 3 score tho). I'm in to have 3 cycles of EC to start then 3 of something else. How are you coping with the chemo? I would like to carry on working but no idea if that's possible.

  • Hi Sarah

I've finished my 3 EC sessions and have to admit it's not been easy especially the last session.

Day 6-9 after treatment I was in bed no energy, struggling to eat and drink. Day 10-11 up but one simple job like making a cuppa knocked me out so I had to lay on settee.

I had planned to work from home for possible 2 weeks but this has not happened. Lack of concentration and just general feeling not 100% it was decided I need to just concentrate on me. However I do know of people who have managed some work from home.

Do you have a start date?

    Louise xx

  • Not yet… They said about 2 weeks. I’m a teacher so I’m very much doubting I’m going to be able to work. Going to speak to my boss on Monday, but luckily they’re really supportive. Have you had much vomiting/nausea? I’ve got a vomiting phobia so I’m pretty scared. Sarah x
  • No vomiting at all and some nausea but they give you meds for that so the first sign you take a tablet.

Make sure you get imodium, laxatives and antacids in just incase. It's better to have them ready than have to wait like I did the first time.
