Breast cancer

Hi everyone, having recently had my mammogram  it's been picked up there's a lump I had a a biopsy and it's grade 3 cancer, they quickly got me in to get it removed and I have just received results that all margins and  lymph nodes are clear, I should have been ecstatic but im just so emotional I have now got the long wait again to see oncologist and find out what treatment I will need, I don't actually know what to ask.  Im just hoping that I can get a little feedback if anyone has had similar, thank you

  • Hi

Sorry to read about your recent findings.

Do you have a date to see oncology?

I had lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy April 21st all the cancer was removed and it hadn't spread. I spoke with oncology May 19th and because of the type of bc I have chemo is what they suggest.

I started chemo on 11th June and will have 3 sessions of EC then 3 months of PC followed by 10 days of radiotherapy.

Questions to ask are which type of bc you have. What treatment they want you to have and what are the side effects.

Hope that helps, let me know how you get on.

  • Hi Louise thank you for the reply the hospital said it will be around 3 weeks Before I see the oncologist and the bc is grade 3 triple negative, and that's about all I know up to now,

    good luck with your treatment

    thanks Pam

  • Hi Pam

Thank you. You have the same as me so could possibly have similar treatment.

  • Thanks Louise for the reply  could you tell me what EC  and PC means and how long is a session, will It be possible for me to be working while having this treatment x

    Pam

  • Hi Pam

EC is Epirubicin and Cyclophoshamide this I have 3 sessions of every 21 days. The first session took 3 hours as there is alot to go through. Others should be about 2.

The PC I've been told I will be in for half a day but I will ask Friday when I'm having my 2nd session.

PC is Paclitaxel and Carboplatin this will be every week for 3 weeks, 4th week off x 3.

I had planned to work from home if I felt up to it but work have now signed me off as logistically it wouldn't of helped them.

First 14 days I definitely couldn't of worked, after that up to next session I would of been able to do some but not my full 6 hours. I don't know what it will be like as I go further into my treatment.

  • Louise thank you so much for sharing your journey this information it's helping me  a lot,

good luck on Friday with your second session on Friday snd I hope you don't mind if I come back on snd ask you about it later.

    thanks Pam

  • Hi Pam!

Hope your well, I understand how your feeling. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer a month ago. I'm getting chemo first which starts this week! So I'm v nervous! I'm getting 4 cycles of EC that will last 2 months then 3 cycles of carboplatin which is every 3 weeks and by end of that they will know if I can get a simple lumpectomy or maybe need mastectomy!

it's normal to feel how you do! When I got diagnosed everything was fairly positive.. small tumour and everything else looked clear!
Although since my recent MRI my lymph nodes need to be further investigated which happens today! I'm very nervous but have been told they could be inflamed after the biopsy so we shall see!

wishing you all the best, glad surgery went well and you'll be finding out your treatment in no time!!
