Secondary breast cancer

Hello lovely people in my phone

Ive just very recently been diagnosed with breast cancer at 36. I am still awaiting some results from a second biopsy, to ascertain if the cancer is multifocal? My understanding is this will be the difference between a lumpectomy or mastectomy. My lymph nodes were checked with ultrasound and all looked okay although i am aware this is not a definitive until surgery.

Ive been reading, as you do , and wanted to ask other chat members experience of Secondary breast cancer??

I do have a sore(ish) hip on one side, and after reading, have now filled myself with dread that the cancer has spread into my bones! My sore hip is relatively unremarkable....more like a dull ache, not constant, and I certainly dont need to take pain relief to alleviate it. It doesnt really stop me doing anything physical and i can bend without pain; but it's there & im more aware of it now.

I have an office job which entails me sitting for prolonged periods, sometimes I feel it, sometimes I dont.

Im at that stage where I want to mention it to my consultant but terrified of what the outcome may be

  • Hello Pjsrlife,

I understand how you feel. I'm 41 in a similar situation but trying to keep things in proportion. I recently underwent a left side mastectomy with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction for DCIS (turned out to be DCIS with microinvasion) and I will have radiotherapy soon.

I also have had some pains in my legs mainly shins but also thigh which has been worrying me. I mentioned this to the breast nurse and she did not seem to concerned. She said lots of things could cause the pain e.g I am runner and before diagnosis recently increased my distance or side effects from stopping medication I was previously taking. I might be different also as DCIS is unlikely to be invasive and my lymph nodes were clear.

Also once I had my diagnosis I think I hyper focused on every ache and pain.

This doesn't mean we should be blazé. I think you should definitely mention it to the doctor - After worrying  about this for a while I will be telling the oncologist when I speak to him on Friday. As much as I do not want to 'go there' I think I need to know what he thinks. It's unlikely to be something but I think the only way to address the worry is the face it head on. Hopefully for both of us it will put our minds at ease.

I wish you all the very best with your treatment and hope you hip pain turn out to be insignificant.
