Pancreatic cancer

My father in law has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
He has been struggling with solid food, anything mildly tasty, permanent pain, and wide range of other symptoms (too many to detail).  He had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago, that displayed a lump and unusual looking veins in/around the pancreas.  He was called back for a CT with contrast a few day later, and was given the news that it is pancreatic cancer a couple of days later.

He told us it was 1.5cm, we now know from his partner that it is 4.5cm - I understand he is trying to protect everyone by not telling them the full extent of it. He can't really eat anything and the permanent pain is debilitating.

It is so difficult to know what to say or do. I am really hoping it is recoverable - I just don't know what the outlook is.
