Pancreatic cancer

My father in law has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
He has been struggling with solid food, anything mildly tasty, permanent pain, and wide range of other symptoms (too many to detail).  He had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago, that displayed a lump and unusual looking veins in/around the pancreas.  He was called back for a CT with contrast a few day later, and was given the news that it is pancreatic cancer a couple of days later.

He told us it was 1.5cm, we now know from his partner that it is 4.5cm - I understand he is trying to protect everyone by not telling them the full extent of it. He can't really eat anything and the permanent pain is debilitating.

It is so difficult to know what to say or do. I am really hoping it is recoverable - I just don't know what the outlook is.

  • Hello,

Pancreatic cancer is extremely serious and the outlook in many cases is very low.

Your father in law is no doubt unable to take in and understand all that he has been told.

Surely, wherever he had the ultrasound and CT scan must have given him pain relief and referred him to a hospital that specialises in cancer for further help?.

Think maybe you need to ring the help line on this site to guide you through what to do.

    Best Wishes.

  • I'm awaiting act scan for this

  • [@colinib] thank you for your comments. Yes I certainly think they have told him much more than he is letting on. He isn’t one to ask for help and I’m told he refused medication and is suffering daily. We’re going to see him for Father’s Day next week - just hoping it isn’t it the last. [@fallmare] sorry I haven’t replied - lots going on. I have my fingers crossed for your scan.
