The waiting is messing with my mind

I'm a 40yr old single Mum with an amazing teenage boy and have just been diagnosed with breast cancer :(

I feel in shock and I'm so scared I leave my boy! Some days I'm so positive and strong and the others I am a mess. I'm definitely finding the waiting between tests mentally hard. They told me at the breast clinic that they were certain it was cancer and then biopsy confirmed it.

I had breast MRI the other day and the breast nurse rang yesterday to say another lump was spotted so I need another ultrasound and another biopsy. She said it may be nothing but obviously they need to know before they decide what op and treatment etc. She also said I need a CT scan. This is the part that is freaking me out. Does everyone with breast cancer have a CT scan or are they doing it because they think it has spread?

I know we are all different but if anyone can help me with this I'd be so so grateful. I'm just so frightened and keep thinking the worst which isn't even like me.

Thanks for everything on this forum and keep being the brave, amazing ladies and men that you are!xx

  • Hi

Sorry to read your news it's totally understandable that your emotionally all over the place.

I got diagnosed on 31st March by biopsy, mammogram and ultrasound. I did not have a ct scan so cannot say why they have requested, can you call your breast team for advice?

Do you have a good support network that you can talk openly with?

Hope you don't have long to wait, try and keep busy/occupied hard I know.

    Best wishes

  • Hi,

Thanks so much for replying. Think I was just having a freak out and needed to vent somewhere and this place is perfect for that! My nurse is amazing and explains everything well, it's just she said to me that it's standard procedure to have CT scan and I have noticed that it isn't really and that's what worries me but I just need to stay strong and see what happens. Think I'm just still trying to process it all.

I am lucky to have an amazing support network and they are helping loads but I am definitely trying to be positive infront of them so this group is handy for me to say all my fears.

Hope you're doing ok, it is a horrible journey to have to be on but we'll all get there!

    Take care x
