DCIS

Hi.Im new to this .I have just got results back on thursday for the biopsy I had done on calcification in my breast. They have told me that it is DCIS, a non invasive and they are going to remove it.I had another biopsy whist I was there on Thursday on another area.I forgot to ask why did they not see or do the biopsy when they done the 1st one.It was a different doctor that I saw that gave me the results.I am so scared.

  • Hi,

it's an awful shock I know, but they have found it so early which is good news. I had a llump appear and the cancer had already spread to lymph nodes under arm . I also had a biopsy on my other breast but that was clear. The mammogram I had the year before did not show the carcinoma. I had a masectomy and treatment. The nurses and doctors will look after you.

    Best wishes

  • Hi

I have recently been diagnosed with a mix of intermediate and high grade DCIS (2 biopsy sites) after finding a lump in my breast and then when I was sent for tests, on the mammogram I had extensive calcifications. I am currently waiting for a masectomy.

I keep reading about DCIS just being due to calcifications....is it more advanced if you find a lump? I cant stop myself googling.

  • Be careful with the googling, ask many questions to your doctors. Every person is different. I had a masectomy as there were calcifications under the lump, but they were not cancerous. Are you having reconstruction? That's another area to question. It is a relief when the lump has been removed, then you can move forward with treatment and healing. Just trust in your team to do the best for you.

I finished treatment in July 2020 so I'm a year down the line and doing well.

  • Thanks Silver for replying - its really hard to stay away from google although this forum has been amazing source of support. I am having an expander implant put in whilst they work out whether I need further treatment. They say I am too thin to have a flap reconstruction. Do you mind me asking what treatment you had after your masectomy? It will be a relief when the lump is gone as I am sure its getting bigger.

So glad you are a year down the line and doing well
