Macmillan nurse information

Hi ️

I was just wondering if anyone knew if the Macmillian nurse that visits knows your diagnosis and stage?

I'm not sure if that's a silly question or not, but my Dad was diagnosed last week. However he doesn't seem to fully know the diagnosis or stage, whether he just didn't take it fully in or wasn't told. There is a macmillian nurse visting him today and I'm just wondering will she know? I'm the type that needs to look everything up and try to understand, which is hard without actually knowing

Thank you!

  • Hello HiThere1,

A warm welcome to our forum! How did the Macmillan nurse visit go? I hope she was very helpful and that she had more information to give you about your dad's diagnosis and staging.

If you need any information on a particular cancer, do let us know and we will be happy to signpost you to relevant resources on our website for example. It's great that you like to look things up and have all the details to understand what you are dealing with and I hope that by now you have been given some more information about your dad's cancer.

I hope you find out more soon too about his treatment plan. If you ever wanted to ask specific questions related to his cancer diagnosis, feel free to give our cancer nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to help.

Best wishes to you and your dad,

  • Hi [@HiThere1]‍

I think that's a very good question, to be honest.  I find it useful to know who might know 'whatever' too.  Also, like you, I have a very inquisitive mind and I like to know, and understand, the details.  I suspect that's largely personality but also I'm a retired nurse ;)

I would go with the suggestion given by [@Moderator Lucie]‍ and contact them via the telephone number given in her post.  I will suggest Dr Google can be fraught with problems although, I find OK as long as I'm conscious of being discerning as to what 'information' is available, ie either unreliable or too much detail which causes even more worry and concern.  So, please take care.  Best to speak to recognised organisations. :)

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hi Lucie,

Thank you for your reply. She was very helpful and talked us through everything really well. Unfortunately dad has metastatic basal cell carcinoma with secondary in the lung, which is rare so I'm not sure you'll be able to signpost me anywhere.

    Thank you tho

  • That is very rare indeed and not one I have often encountered before on the forum I must confess! Try perhaps giving our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm) and they may be able to dig out additional information on this rare cancer or point you in the right direction.

I am glad the nurse was very helpful and explained everything to you very clearly. It certainly helps especially when dealing with such a rare cancer. I hope your dad is ok and remains in good spirits.
